Just wondering if any of you suffer from this. I get a lot of pain in the morning and it takes time for the pain to ease off. My GP gave me some exercises for the foot but they are not helping. Take care x
Foot/heel pain: Just wondering if any of you suffer... - LUPUS UK
Foot/heel pain
Hello Pipido36. That sounds "plantar fasciitis". The classic signs are that the pain is in the heel, worst first thing in the morning and the pain reduces as the muscle under the foot gets stretched once you are up and moving about. Google on plantar fasciitis to see if that is what you might have. If so, exercises to stretch the long muscle under the foot will help. So does bending/flexing the foot (getting the toes as close to your knee as possible for 5 minutes or more before you get out of bed). If it is PF the muscle has stretched so much that there is tiny micro tearing of the muscle away from the bone in the heel. That is why it hurts. But that can be reduced by taking anti inflammatory tablets or rubbing anti inflammatory gel (in the UK that means things like Neurofen). Cooling the heel helps too by reducing inflammation. But the very best thing you can do for PF is strap it, like an athlete before a marathon! This website shows one way to do that: youtube.com/watch?v=Wy1ZEJ-... But I'd tape over the top of the foot as well. Strapping or tapping lifts the arch of the foot - and that relives a lot of the stress on that muscle at the heel. If it is PF, it usually comes on slowly but also goes slowly if you do this kind of thing. I had bad PF and I'm fixed now. It takes time but it is fixable! I wish you well. Mark
Thank you for the reply. That is exactly what I have. I have not tried the neurofen gel. I will get that and also try strapping it. Thank you again. Take care.
I have foot pain as well but a lot of mine is in the ball of my foot and on the tips of my toes on one foot.
My left heel had been hurt two years ago, a pair of arche support is really helpful for me to getting around. Go to goodfeet.com to learn more about it.
Good lucks
Do you walk about with no shoes on? Weird I know. My heels used to hurt like anything until I saw my GP he advised me to not go about with no shoes slippers etc on. And it worked!
Good to do this, I do, but I often need slipper socks because if my feet are cold that makes the pain worse.
In the winter I wear snuggle slippers which are like slipper socks, but lined with furry stuff and very light and flexible. Ordinary slippers are no good in the house and I wear lightweight shoes when out never heavy shoes, so I can feel the ground through them.
I was referred to biomechanics for PF and had insoles made for my shoes and they gave me exercises to do...took a long time to feel better
I deal with my pain with massage - I had reflexology a few years ago and I watched what the therapist did and I do it on myself - also have a book to refer to. I think the pain is caused by blockages or crystal formation and I find massage moves it and relieves the pain. Have you tried a reflexologist? Only get one that is recommended, though.
With our thundery weather I have had pain in my feet again and toes - like cramps, but that I read is due to dehydration or can be, so make sure you keep hydrated with nutrient drinks not sugary, of course. All the best.
