Hi, I am waiting diagnosis for Lupus and seeing GP on Thursday. I have had 1 out of the 4 autoimmune test but not confirmed what one yet (GP is contacting hospital) not sure if it is the Lupus one. I have migrating arthritis - swollen and painful, thinning hair, sores in the nose and mouth, fatigue and pain that is worse in the night, stays for a while in the morning then returns in the evening. If the ANA test is negative could I still have Lupus? Something is showing up?

Hi SMabey,

ANA is usually positive in about 95% of people with lupus. It is therefore less common, but not unheard of to have lupus with a negative ANA result. The test results can fluctuate, so they may repeat the test a number of times. Good luck with your appointment on Thursday. Let us know how it goes.
