Hi all, I have a question about pet allergy, does anyone know if having lupus/inflammatory Arthritis/Fibro, makes you more sensitive to pets. My inflammation seems to be worse when I am at home with two dogs.

Hi
I have arthritis and fibromyalgia as well as a cat, I have found I need to take anti histamine tablets (got them of GP) as I have to be careful what it take. It has helped a lot
Ask your GP or pharmacist for their advice
Hope this helps
Morning, thanks for your response, I'm starting to wonder how much of my problems are because of my dogs. I'm just realising, whenever I'm away from home, I am much better, less inflammation, more energy, I love them dearly but am currently taking, ami, duloxetine, pred, Plenaquil and heading towards meth and wondering how much this is down to them.
I changed jobs in January which meant I could work from home on Mon & Fri - I thought brilliant, 4 days at home and three days out, it'll help me manage my fatigue... Since then my ESR & CRP have doubled...I'm asking myself is that because I've been around the dogs more?? Like Chandlermandy I've done some research but drawn a blank...
Hi i have the same as you and i am allergic to dogs and cats and i take antihistamines, So we don't have any pets.
My GP said if i really wanted a dog to a poodle type or Bichon frise as they don't malt, by i still don't want to take the risk as i am a firm believer all dogs still malt.
Hi we have two dogs and two cats as far as I can see they don't affect me in a bad way but they keep me exercised and mobile
I am severely allergic to dogs. Hhis has got worse as I have got older. I also suffer from asthma. My husband and I have never had a dog, as a result of this, but my mum and stepfather always kept dogs. I used to take antihistamine before visiting, then that didn't work, so I started taking them a week before and then that didn't work. I changed the type I was using, but that didn't work in the end. I used to have to come home, change my clothes, shower, gargle to rinse my mouth out, I had a constantly sore throat and I could almost smell the dander on me. I had a serious allergic reaction on one occasion, after spending 5 hours at their house, celebrating my stepfather's 60th birthday. I was very, very ill and in hindsight I should have gone to hospital. Anyway, I went down hill from there and my lupus symptoms started not long after that. I do not know 100% whether this was linked or not! but in my mind it is. I rarely visited them from then on, which was hard for me but I was just so ill after every visit. I would say, go with your gut instinct. If you think you have noticed you are better away from your dogs, you are probably right. It will be tough to deal with I am sure, but your health may be suffering. Best wishes.
