You will always have Lupus. You will learn to manage it. "The same" could mean whatever your condition was before they tested you/ why they tested you. Don't be afraid to ask your doctors questions. Write them down before hand. To know more about your illness means you can be more in control.

Sadly there isn't a cure for Lupus but it can be controlled with the right balance of medication and even go in to remission. Like Tammy said don't be afraid to ask lots of questions.

Hi janejoyce12,

Would you like one of our free information packs? Inside there are a few informative leaflets, booklets and a copy of our New & Views magazine which features up to date news on the lupus community. There is also a list of our range of useful guides, books, DVD (So, You've Got Lupus) and factsheets inside the pack which are available for you to order if you wish.

Here's two of our factsheets that may be helpful;

Lupus The Symptoms and Diagnosis - lupusuk.org.uk/images/pdf/3...

Lupus and Medication -

lupusuk.org.uk/images/pdf/9...

Unfortunately there is currently no cure for lupus, but with the correct medication it can be controlled. Have you been prescribed any medication?

If you would like the information pack, then just send me a quick private message or an email with your address and i will pop one in the post for you. hayley@lupusuk.org.uk

If you need anything else, please do let me know.

Best wishes,

Hayley

Hello Jane, am sorry to hear you suffer from Lupus, I suffer from Lupus, and i have had it since 1994, Lupus is an Autoimmune Disease, which does not go away suddenly, you experience different symptons from time to time, depending on the type of Lupus u have. Lupus can also affect the internal organs, therefore it is important to have these blood tests done to check and also monitor any other medications u are taking. Please feel free to always ask your rheumatologist or consultant questions, which will help you manage your illness more comfortably. In the beginning, it will all sound strange and worrying, but with time u will be able to adjust. Do not be confused, u are not alone.

Dear Jane,

I don't know your age, but if you are a young person, there is a chance you may go into remission. I was diagnosed at age 67, so for me, I don't hod out hope for remission. However, I know a lot of young people who have. At present, there is no "cure." Maybe in our futre..but for now, doctors treat the symptoms and monitor you. Everything has side effects, and your doctor should be aware of all of them. The most important person in your life now is your DOCTOR!
