Hi, I've had Lupus for over twenty years, I would like to ask two question. About 5 years ago my consultant thought my Lupus was mimicking Ataxia and now it's felt that I have Ataxia & Lupus. I wonder if other have experienced this?
Also I've noticed for about 10 years ago when winter comes. It seems that my skin is thinner on my feet and hands. In that they have been very sensitive.

Hi ataxia is caused by many things one being toxification inflammation in the body Lupus is caused by toxificaton of the body causing inflammation in the body anywhere in the body joints, muscles, skin organs different lupus patients get different symptoms! So it is connection they both come from the body being in a toxified state get rid of the toxicity and the symptoms will improve!!!!
Ataxia can be caused by lupus itself, so instead of your lupus mimicking ataxia, I think your doctor should have considered lupus upfront and do some more testing 5 years ago, so you can start medication earlier and hopefully control the ataxia.
Skin sensitivity may be due to your drugs but also some skin involvement of the lupus. If you've noticed this anew, ask your rheumatologist about it and maybe get him to refer you for a skin biopsy, check for vasculitis or any subcutaneous impact of lupus.
Thank you very much for taking the time to respond. I found the information very helpful. I've an apt soon with my consultant at St Thomas hospital and will mention it to her and see also if she will referre me to have a skin biopsy.
