Has anyone got spongy cushions on their palms? What causes them?

overnighthearingloss profile image

On both of my palms at the base of my fingers I have 4 raised cushions. Never noticed them before. Been like it a few days now that I am aware of. No pain associated with them but wondered if anyone else has similar or knows what may cause it.

hi there I think this is the same as what I have .I also have the same down the side of my hand(palm side)-don't know what causes it other than it is a lupus symptom.

Could yours be water retention? At the moment thats what i am considering as i look as though i have put on a bit of weight recently but it could be fluid retention.

I was looking for the right word to describe the area. Palmistry sites describe them as moons. They are just at the base of the fingers and are noticeably raised. I am not usually overweight.

Hello, I to had spongey lumps, 3 0f them, looked like a mountain range along the base of my thumb, then I stumbled over cholesterol symptoms on the internet, especially raised cholesterol. A blood test agreed that my levels were raised, my statin dose was raised, and hey presto ,the lumps went, Reasoning was that too high levels of cholesterol cause the ligaments to soften and puff out in little balloons. This seemed to be the reason in my case, of course it might be something different in your case, but its worthwhile asking for a blood test. Best of luck for the future.

I have noticed that I seem a bit bloated in many areas now and am wondering if I have been putting my kidneys under too much stress. Possibly been eating too much protein recently

Been much worse previously and pulled it back so will be a bit more careful with my diet and watch for any changes. Not on statins but on enough other things to not want to take more unnecessarily.

Thanks for the replies

I have the cushions on my hand it just appeared about 6 months ago itnis under the skin and it will make my hand itch.

Mine are not itchy at the moment. Just really puffy. Thats why I thought pf possible water retention issues. I know my weight has increased a bit and i can see signs elsewhere of possible water retention. I am revisiting a a more renal friendly diet in case my kidneys are murmuring again

But if they start itching or causing pain I will know I am not alone

:-)
