I need to find a really good hip surgeon in the North West. I only moved from the Midlands in the summer after bilateral hip arthroscopies in July (one of the so far unexplained things that has suddenly happened in the last 18 months alongside all of the other Lupus-like and auto-immune symptoms). It gave me temporary relief, then got progressively worse from the end of November, and the thought of travelling to Coventry to see Prof Griffin in this amount of pain is rather overwhelming. If anyone has any recommendations, I'd be really grateful!
Hi, I have been treated at Gobowen hospital which specialises in this sort of problem. Its one of the best hospitals in UK, fantastic reputation. Another hospital is near Parbold but I can't remember its name (it's not far from Camelot theme park ). If you google them they will both come up. You can be referred to both hospitals as due to the specialist nature they take referrals from a huge area. I know Gobowen takes patients from other side of Birmingham and up to Cumbria.
Hi, lol its one of those questions. Not to bad but not to good lol. Just had my shoulder done at Gobowen by Mr Kelly (very nice Irish gentleman) could not have been better or done more tests and scans in preparation. I don't know if it would help but I have a blacket that is fluffy and not a bed blanket but it plugs in and gets warm. Think I got it from Argos and its my saving grace in this weather.
i have avascular necrosis of the hip bone because of lupus. My doctor said that i may need a hip replacement in the future. I have terrible pain in my hip and constantly take paracetamol, one leg is bigger than the other. I am only 47, and feel like an old woman sometimes. I have bone scans ever year because of my transplant.
Thanks for your reply. there is not much i can do at the moment. Can't stand this cold weather it makes it worse.x
I know, I'm the same! I'm living in thermals, several sweaters, gloves, scarves, two pairs of socks and that's just in the house! I'm usually under a duvet too. I just cannot get warm! X
Hello. I had a hip arthroscopy on my left side in April last year and was told I had advanced arthritis in my hip and would definitely need a hip replacement in the future. I'm 39. So quite scary. The consultant said I could slow the process right down if I stopped running, and delay this. He couldn't come up with any other explanation for the state of my hip. Then I was diagnosed with Discoid Lupus in November. Now getting hip pain both sides. Wondering if Lupus is behind this. Just had X-rays so will have to wait and see. Your question and the replies are really helpful. Thank you.
