rashes could be associated with lupus(not an expert just what ive read)and sun sensitivity could be another symptom.
hi, me too, my arms are driving me mad with itching. I am going to call at my local chemist to ask what I can put on to stop itching. I will let you know what he says, he's good, got me plaquenil as soon as I asked, very supportive
hi, just been to my chemist ( lovely man- he was just looking at a rash on elderly man, and rang the GP for him for immediate apt as he thought the man had shingles) and he said the best thing for the itchiness was piriton syrup, so I'm trying that. Hope you get relief
I get the same kind of rash every time I go out in the sun...even with suntan cream on...It is an allergy to the sun caused by Lupus...Piriton and antihistamine cream may give some relief..You need to to tell your Rheumy about it on your next visit. The only way I deal with it is either do not go out in the sun or if you have to you must be covered up or under umbrella at all times.
Hi I had a similar things, my GP was great and though it was probably related to the lupus and prescribed a mild steroid cream and it stopped the itching almost immediately and cleared it up in days! Hope this helps.
Hi hun this has happened to me a few times too- random rashes. Take an antihistamine, apply a steroid cream also for a week or two eat salads/fruit and water try avoid junk/takeouts or microwave food. It cleared mine up x
Hi loveme ,
Do you know that Neutrogena makes a sunscreen which claims to be SPF 100+ - pricey but works!
Cheaper (and very soothing if rash and itch develop is Lacto Calamine cream, esp.. applied at bedtime, rubs in well so not too damaging on bed linen
Coconut oil with a couple of drops of Lavender oil mixed in will take the itch away & calm the irritation.
Also great for itchy skin is Bicarbonate of Soda in your bath. I was told this by my Doctor and it does work. And its cheap.
Hi I am photosensitive and get in a terrible state not just with the sun but with low energy bulbs and florescent lighting too. I wear gloves, scarf, jacket and long jeans I also wear at least a factor 50 on any uncovered skin no matter what the weather as my symptoms get so bad it is better to feel uncomfortable for a while being a walking sauna that have my rash and lupus symptoms getting worse. My dermatologist prescribes for me two different creams when the rash is bad one is a steroid cream and one is a cream that works on the immune system and using them alternately works better than one or the other. I tried various natural remedies but they caused problems with other things that I take and I became quite ill but this is the best combination that I have now and when my skin is in good condition I use the gel from an aloe vera plant to keep it looking nice. I don't wear make up or use chemicals on my skin any more as they made it worse.
I hope that some of this has been of use to you, good luck
Madmagz x
I think it is all part of Lupus - I have photosensitivity and still haven't got back to normal after the heatwave. I had steroid cream, antihistimines and in the end a short course of steroids, this did all get me out of an emergency situation.
My face & head has to be covered when I go outside, I use UV protection "Buffs" [I'm sort of used to it but the general public are not!], long sleeves and trousers. I have several shirts with long cuffs - my hands are refusing to get better, but also made some decorative almost like fingerless gloves from old linen & lace!
As Madmagz I have to watch out for artificial lights, ok with low energy bulbs with shades but hallogen really bad, also tungsten and flourescent tubes.
I came here today to post a question about photosensitivity...
