Does anyone else suffer more with hay fever since developing Lupus?
Hi,
I suddenly started having hay fever two years ago when lupus began rearing it's head, and I am in my 60's so I thought a bit late to develop allergies and wondered whether this was yet another Lupus thing. However, I have also taken beta blockers for 8 years which can in some cases bring out an underlying allergy that may have lain dormant. I had allergies as a child but quickly grew out of them, so not sure if the lupus or the beta blocker brought it back.We have also experienced some extra high pollen levels at times which can irritate people who would previously not be affected.Fortunately mine is mild but I know that severe forms can be horrid to have and cope with. Take care.
Lupus can make allergies worse.
My daughter's consultant told her that her hayfever might improve on immuno suppressant tablets because her immune system won't react so violently to the pollen. She still gets hayfever but it is slightly better
I also started to get hayfever for the first time when my lupus symptoms started. But my life time long asthma & other allergies disappeared. Very odd!
I had hay fever and non-seasonal rhinitis for a couple of years before any other major problems. I later was diagnosed with bipolar disorder but then experienced back pain, muscle and joint pain, frozen shoulder, vertigo, and sleep problems. For years I thought my costochondritis was just anxiety. As I now understand it all my problems are connected to the permeability of my gut. I would recommend anyone with auto-immune issues to improve their digestion and consider eliminating problem foods (if interested see my other replies on this site), I thoroughly endorse the food combining principle of not eating proteins with starches, as that cured my hay fever. I have no current health issues. Good luck in your pursuit of health!
Thanks for your answers guys. I get a really hacking cough with it and hoping it won't get that bad again this year. It's possible it was exacerbated by the pericarditis....but it might be vice versa!....time will tell lol!
