has anyone had this op? Is it better to have full lobe taken out? Will that reduce risk of having chemo after???

lung wedge resection
Hi lottieodlfart
Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear you require lung surgery. It is not unusual to have a wedge resection of the lobe, sometimes to determine the pathology of the nodules/abnormality, or if a biopsy has not been possible, it can also be used in removing very early lung cancers.
It is a question that you would have to discuss with your surgeon or specialist. This link will take you directly to our booklet on lung surgery: roycastle.org/app/uploads/2...
You may be interested to know that for those who have a primary lung cancer, we offer a one off grant of up to £150 and you can apply for this through this link: roycastle.org/patient-grant...
Hope it all goes well for you and please do not hesitate to contact us if you would like to discuss anything. You can email ask the nurse at lungcancerhelp@roycastle.org or call our free phone nurse led helpline number on 0800 358 7200 Monday to Thursday 0900-1700 and Friday 0900-1600
Kind regards

Hi Lottieoldfart 😁,
Yes I had a 3 wedge resections of my lower left lung in March 2020. I was scheduled for the removal of the lower lobe, but had some heart problems during surgery.
I have recovered well and cancer free for nearly 3 years. I had additional chemo after surgery for extra insurance.
Hope this helps.
