LUNG CANCER PATIENT LUMP FOUND IN NECK.

I am heading to ENT tomorrow morning. Consultant found lump in my neck. I am panicking now. Could it be metastases from the lung cancer? I am also panicking as I cannot have a camera put up my nose into my throat whilst I am awake. I just know I can’t do it. Lumps in necks is not good news is it 😔

Hi RonnieIt’s hard not to worry I know. It’s good to hear you have an appointment soon though so that whatever it is, it can be quickly dealt with.

I just wanted to say though, do tell the team about your concerns about the procedure. They will see a lot of people who feel the same and will be able to help.

Hi Ronnie57

A lump can be many things, other than cancer, but equally good to know what it is, even for peace of mind.

It may be they will ultrasound this with a needle aspiration sample to determine what it is.

It is unlikely that they will do an Nasoendoscopy, the investigation you are describing, if you do not have symptoms in your nose or throat. If you do have symptoms of voice changes etc, then do let them know that you will have difficulty tolerating the procedure.

It is understandable you are feeling anxious and scared and you are very welcome to contact us, either by email to ask the nurse at lungcancerhelp@roycastle.org or call our free phone nurse led helpline on 0800 358 7200 Monday to Thursday 0900-1700 and Friday 0900-1600

Hope all goes well for you

Thank you. Waiting for ultrasound. Consultant thinks it’s a lump in my carotid artery. 😔

I had a lump on my neck when I admitted to A&E in Oct 2010 and the paramedic thought it was a reaction from all the antibiotics/steroids I'd been given the previous night in A&E - by Dec I was having surgery to remove a tumour from the upper left lung (the lung is on the left side of neck) diagnosed as non small cell cancer in Jan 2011. I was back at work and swimming just a few months later and have been active ever since. During the pandemic the same side of my neck appeared to have the lump return so I was worried. My GP sent me for an ultrasound scan of my neck due to my history and it turned out to be a lipoma (a benign fatty lump) so try not to panic.... it could be many things.... good luck.
