Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone had some info or experience of the same combo. I am starting chemo and immunotherapy (carboplatin-pemetrexed-pembrolizumab) on Tuesday. I had my right lung removed 2020 had a reaccurance on the lining right area January this year and had radiotherapy but unfortunately I have another reaccurance. Any info would be much appreciated 😘

Hi Eglingham,

Yes I had that starting in April 2020, it worked really well for me, so I hope it does the same for you. I’m not sure what info you are after specifically but let me know and I can see if I can help. Best of luck xx

Hi,Thank you for your reply and pleased it went well for you ☺ I'm wondering about still being able to work and lead a relatively normal life or can I expect to get sick from it?

Hi Eglingham - I was pretty much normal whilst on it, maybe sleepy when the steroids wore off but had naps if that was the case, only for a few days, nothing major. I did eventually develop some bad side effects after 8 rounds (colitis) so if there is anything that is not normal for you, call the team straight away and they will sort you. Best of luck to you xx

I’m doing good it’s been almost 2 years since my treatment stopped and I’ve remained stable, not clear, not cured but stable, I call it liquid gold and long may it continue! I have a story in the recent roy Castle Lung Foundation Inspire magazine which explains my situation but everyone is super different. Wishing you all the best for tomorrow xx

Morning, so far so good feeling good ☺ it was a lot pumping everything into you in one sitting as well as b12 shot and tablets but 🤞 it will be worth it. Read your story in the magazine and how amazing, it must have been scary for you in the beginning but love you have got your life back on track and making plans ☺ long may it continue and enjoy every minute xxxx

I’m so pleased it went ok - gosh I hated those injections you forget, they stop after the triple (just in case you hate them too) hopefully you’ll breeze through the next few weeks ready for the next 😘 in hindsight I would say make as many plans as you can, little or small, I had covid lock down at the time but you still need to be super careful. Wishing you all the best xx

Hello Englingham,

I am sorry to hear that you have had recurrence, it has been shown in recent research that combining immunotherapy along with a more traditional treatment like platinum-based chemo can greatly improve the effectiveness of the treatment giving you a better outcome. Researchers are still looking at how theses combinations of drugs work together.

We have booklets which cover chemo and immunotherapies and these will give you an idea on what to expect from side effects. As with all these types of treatments it is very difficult to predict what side affects you are likely to experience and how severe these will effect you

I have found an article on the very well website which explains well how these two therapies work together, it is a long read and an American website so the terminology is a bit different but gives a really good explanation.
