NSCLC Immunotherapy

Hello does anyone have any info on starting Immunotherapy where there has been progression after carboplatin chemo? Particularly where someone has picked up infection whilst having chemo despite tolerating it quite well.

Thanks in advance x

Missy,

Standard of Care for every lung cancer patient to date is that they MUST experience progression after treating their cancer with a platinum based chemo doublet or triplet. There are currently trials where patients are receiving immunotherapy in conjunction with standard chemo as first line but it has not been approved yet.

Does this help a bit?

Thanks Denzie, yes it does! More bad news today as My mum was told that her scan has shown progression. The Dr told her that more chemo isn't looking likely at this point as it seems to be making her more ill as she has picked up infection after both cycles of chemotherapy. We know that she is PDL1 positive and so just praying that she can still have Immunotherapy.

Thanks again!

There is an American website called Inspire. It's worth asking the question on there too as people from around the world will say about their treatment. Wishing your mum all the best Xx

I moderate a site on Facebook Lungevity Immunotherapy and there are over 400 survivors on immunotherapy. In the US Opdivo and Tecentriq don't require PD-L1 expression and Keytruda only 1 % or more for second line. First line Keytruda requires 50% expression. Hope that helps.

Dear MissyD1

Sorry to hear your Mum has had a difficult time with the chemotherapy. Given that she is PDL1 positive and if she feels well enough, Immunotherapy may be the next stage, of which the care team looking after her will re assess. Let us know how it goes.

As always if you wish to discuss anything you can call us on our free nurse led helpline number on 0800 358 7200

All the best

Hi thanks for the reply. I spoke to the Lung CNS yesterday and he confirmed that my mum will be offered an Immunotherapy drug called Nivolumab. She has an appointment with the oncologist next Monday to discuss it. She is feeling much better now her infection has cleared too 😊

Take good care of yourself, as you must be exhausted.
