Hi, yes I had the same problem! After every treatment my liver would inflame and then after the 3rd treatment my kidney (yes I only have 1) showed signs of damage. I was in hospital for 10 days on steroids and a hydration drip!! Make sure you drink LOADS of water….

Hope it sorts itself out for you soon! Xx

I had inflammation of the lung (I have lung cancer diagnosed June last year) which is a side effect so they took me off immunotherapy for 4 weeks and put me on steroids…I felt so much better once I finished the course back on immunotherapy now albeit it’s made me feel tired…sending hugs x

Hi Red. I had this problem a few times during the same regime as you are having. They just took me off the chemo (carried on with the immuno) for one cycle and then the bloods showed that the kidneys had recovered again. As has been advised, make sure you drink plenty of water especially on the blood test days as if you are dehydrated the results can appear to be more marked.

Hi Red58

As you can see from the replies, this is not unusual and the reason why they often check the bloods in between treatment cycles. They can determine any abnormalities in the blood levels before you develop symptoms, hence act on it quickly and give the body a rest before proceeding with the next cycle.

Treatment is often stopped temporarily for a few weeks, blood levels reassessed, then hopefully restarted.

If you would like to discuss anything you can email ask the nurse at lungcancerhelp@roycastle.org or call our free phone nurse led helpline number on 0800 358 7200 Monday to Thursday 0900-1700 and Friday 0900-1600
