Hi Mags
Hope you are looking after yourself.
I'm sorry I can't offer any insight - my husband had a completely different chemo regime. Carboplatin and paclitaxel. I think paclitaxel and docetaxel are from a similar group of chemo types. I remember reading through the enormously long list of possible side effects at the start and being very scared about them all - he didn't have anything like all of them and most were easily manageable. The anti-sickness pills worked well and things like the severe constipation are easily resolved! His dentist recommended a mouthwash and this kept almost all mouth issues at bay too. He had filgrastim injections to boost his white blood cell count after each cycle and so he didn't have any issues with low blood cell counts.
Best wishes to you, please let us know how you get on.

Hello, Do you know the name of the mouthwash the doctor recommended to your husband? Thanks
Hi Peppercatyes - it is corsodyl daily (he still uses it). It can stain teeth but your dentist may advise how to use it to avoid this. I didn't notice if this happened for him (there are bigger worries of course) but it was a huge relief that he didn't have a sore and painful mouth.
Best wishes, Sarah x
Hi magstherunner Just wanted to see you're doing ? Did you decide to start the chemo?
Thinking of you.

Hi Sarah. Have decided against it. I don't really think I'm up to it. Low appetite as it is and sickness problems with prescribed pain relief so don't think I can cope with more chemo side effects. We are going to have some weekends and short breaks away and make memories. I'm OK with my decision and feel more in control. Hospital have abandoned me now that I'm not having chemo though!! Will need to rely on lung nurse and my GP although I've not had a face to face meeting with a GP since before the pandemic! I've developed an annoying cough so may need to "bother" them again! Thanks fir your interest. Mags x
Hi Mags
Thank you for your update. I'm sure you thought long and hard about your decision and I'm glad you've found some positives in making your choice.
And I'm sorry to hear you've been ditched by the hospital! You may have thought about this already, but is there a hospice near you? I used to think hospices only provided end-of-live care but many of them offer really important services for people living with incurable conditions. I think Manninmaid regularly gets support from hers. Maybe they will fulfil that gap? Your GP may also be able to advise.
Keep in touch with your adventures wherever they may take you. Sending love, Sarah 💕
Hi Mags
I started my second cycle of Docetaxel and Nintedanib (Vargate) today and have had very little side effects, mainly slight nausea and constipation but easily rectified with prescribed medication. I was previously on Pemetrexed, Carboplatin but this didn't improve things, in fact a new lesion appeared in sternum so moved onto the Docetaxel and Nintedanib which I a m hoping will be more effective.
Sometimes it is a trial and error but I am fortunate in that whilst my cancer is palliative (stage 4 lung cancer metastasized to bone) I do have an excellent consultant.
It can be a horrible illness and we all deal with it in our own way, I wish you and your family all the very best.

Thanks Rob and Sarah. I am happy with my decision. I had a lot of nausea and weight loss with Pemetrexed and Pemulizimab. I'm quite slim as it is and don't feel up to more weakness (and baldness!!). We do have a lovely hospice in Dorset so will avail myself of their services when needed. My own GP is lovely but I do miss face yo face consultations. Take care all, its a jungle out there!! Mags xx 😘
