Today I will be having a PET scan, next week a biopsy, it’s looking as if I will get results by the end of October. I don’t know how to feel! It’s all happened very quickly & I keep thinking I will wake up to find it’s all been a big mistake. Waiting is purgolrtary.

Waiting!
Yes I can remember that whirl of emotions when I was having all the tests in 2018. It’s good that it is happening quickly and your oncologist will decide on the best treatment for you..The sooner you start the better. Sending positive thoughts and love x
Dear VBee
Welcome to the forum where you will find lots of support and encouragement.
Sorry to hear of your worry and waiting is the worst part for any diagnosis.
It is not unusual for your emotions to be up and down, they can come on you unexpectedly and intensely. For some, it is difficult to know how to feel or what you feel, especially when you start to have lots of investigations and you are waiting for an unknown outcome.
You may or may not wish to look at our information booklet on a lung cancer diagnosis if that is what your investigations reveal: roycastle.org/app/uploads/2...
If you are looking things up on the internet, please be aware that there is a lot of misinformation out there and not up to date, all our information materials can be found on this link: roycastle.org/help-and-supp...
The biopsy is the best diagnostic tool for determining if it is cancer, the type and sub type of cancer, and if there are any cell mutations or proteins present which may offer different treatments that will provide the best outcome for the person.
If there is anything you would like to discuss you can either email us at lungcancerhelp@roycastle.org or call our free phone nurse led helpline number on 0800 358 7200 Monday to Thursday 0900-1700 and Friday 0900-1600
Hope all goes well for you.

Hi there,
This is the worst part all the tests but it’s to find out the best treatment for you so worth the wait even though it can be so hard. Wishing you all the best x
great photo - think of that memory when your emotions are all over the place - there are a lot of tests and waiting for the tests and results before any treatment can be determined. many are to rule things out as well as in and it's important to have them as treatments can be very varied dependent on the results.... I found distraction my best coping technique - if my time was filled with other things far less to think about the 'what if' and then just deal with the 'what is' as it arose.... thinking of you...
Thank you, yes feel that would be my coping strategy.
I agree with JanetteR57 that distraction is the best tool for coping and it's okay if your emotions run away with you once in a while. I've always considered myself tough as nails, but there have been times I feel like a bowl of Jello.
🙃
I’m not a control freak, but, like to have a handle on what’s happening to me, but at the moment I feel as if I’m in free fall, not a feeling I’m used to! As they say, ‘Every day is a school day’ !
Sending my love and best wishes. Yes, the waiting is horrendous. I’m like you keep thinking it’s a terrible nightmare, for that little second when I wake up I think life is normal. Just had my first immunotherapy at Christie’s this morning, feel ok up to now. They will personalise your treatment if you need treatment. My thoughts are with you. xx
Fingers crossed for you Loimie, yes those few seconds when you first wake are precious! How many sessions will you have & at what intervals ? thanks for your thoughts.
