Waiting on scan results

LemonDropsDreamToo profile image

My mum was recently diagnosed with nsclc which has spread to her brain, she has had 2 rounds of chemotherapy and had a mri scan last week to see if she is responding, we get the results tomorrow and I am just sick with worry, my mum doesn't seem to have improved at all and she said to me today that she knows she is dying, what if there is nothing more they can do for my mum, I cant live in this world without her, she is only 67 life is so unfair :(

Hi I know your afraid they have several new treatments and more coming out. That are letting stage three and and four live longer. I had lung cancer stage3in lympnodes I wouldn't do radiation they wanted me too but I didn't. I did chemo for 6months this.i'm not a Dr but please don't turn down radiation because I did someone was watching over me. I am now a six year lung cancer survivor. So please have your mom read this and try not to be afraid. If you need to talk I'm here and so are. The others are very good and they'll help.Love susiejo1948

Hi Susie!

This is such good news! Was this small cell?

I’m about to embark this journey as my mother has 3a sclc and it’s in her lymph nodes. Luckily she’s well in herself and just praying the chemo will bat it away. May I ask which chemo you had?

I was in this same position with my mum in law but I’m a year and few months on. There will be some very tough times ahead but. there are lots of things that can be done. I’m sending you a massive hug. My email is tonicameron18@icloud.com

(As I don’t check in on here that regularly. If you need me I honestly don’t mind passing on any information I can.

It is a frightening experience to be given a lung cancer diagnosis. However in recent years there have been masses of changes in treatments in every type (surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, SABR, immunotherapy and combinations of all of these). yesterday I was speaking to a group of patients at Maggie's Centre in London (most recently diagnosed and on treatment) to tell them there is hope. I've met many patients since my diagnosis over 8 years ago that have survived much longer than they was ever suggested. There is good information available on Roy castle website for you to have a look at and hopefully encourage your mum and improve your own knowledge. good luck to you both. x

As you will be attending the clinic today to get the results of your mum's scan you will be feeling very anxious. The medical staff will talk you both through the available treatment options. Please don't hesitate to call the nurse led helpline 0800 358 7200 if you feel you need to talk to someone in confidence.

Kind regards,

All the team at the Roy Castle Helpline
