waiting for surgery

Hi, just joined this wonderful site after reading all the support you all give each other and how brave you all are, i am not feeling very brave at the moment and really scared of going in for surgery which is scheduled for Wednesday, I go in on Tuesday, I have 2 tumors on my right lung and 1 on the left lung, been told I have Bronco alveolar carcinoma, but to confirm this they need to do a biopsy but have to do it surgically as its in a position were they are unable to do it any other way, They are taking 2 wedges from right lung. Originally 5 years ago I was found to have a shadow on my right lung during a routine x ray, I had a broncoscopy and was told it was not cancer but was never really told what it was, but I felt fine, until about 2 years ago when I started with really bad upper back and neck pain especially in my right shoulder blade, repeated visits to GP who kept telling me it was Arthritis, eventually I was sent for an x ray on upper back and chest, the shadow was still there but had grown, then went down the usual route of CT and P E T scans, appointments ect, now surgery, sorry to ramble on but just needed to vent.

Hello littlenanny, im julie (age 53) sorry to hear youre going through this very stressfull time, its a huge rollercoaster and everyone on this site have been on it ! I had surgery in June this year and had a lobectomy of my right lung, it will be hard waiting for your results but try to stay positive and talking about it with others realy helps so feel free to ask as many questions as you want x

Hi! I just want to wish you all the best on Tuesday and beyond. I had my lower left lobe removed in May 2011 and my breathing was almost back to normal within 6 weeks. However, they'd found another cancer in the upper left lobe so the rest of my left lung was removed in August 2011. Having only one lung certainly limits my physical activity a lot but I live alone and cope with housework etc with no help (it takes much longer, though!). I go to the gym and have a pleasantly busy social life. I get about by bus, on foot (slowly) or occasionally by taxi. I'll be 70 in February and am quite a small woman. I know your situation is different but I hope this will encourage you - there can be a decent life after these nasty operations. I hope you are as lucky as I've been.

Thanks elja for your good wishes, you have been through it and seem to be doing great getting out and about after all you've been through, reading all your story's and how you all have coped gives me encouragement, I am a pretty active person and don't like siting still for long, so hopefully after I get this over I will be getting out and about again like you.

All the best

I hope it all goes well for you Margaret. Surgery can be daunting but I hope from the comments above it can be a step worth taking. We look forward to hearing from you when you are recuperating. If you need any information we have a booklet on Surgery and others on different aspects of coping with lung cancer.

Best wishes
