Has anyone developed LPR after lung surgery? I have been taking PPI med and Gaviscon Advance for about 7 weeks but still have bouts of hoarse voice, breathlessness, noisy breathing, occasional cough. I'm waiting for an endoscopy but what can be done? My consultant tells me my lung has expanded quite well and she is pleased but I wish I could feel normal again. My surgery was in February. Has anyone got any advice?

Post lower right lobectomy I have LPR
Dear Mauranne
It can be unclear what causes laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR), this link from the British Voice Association provides information on possible causes, diagnosis, management/treatment of this, please be aware that there are some images on this link which shows the larynx that has signs of acid reflux:

If left untreated,LPR can have an impact on the lungs i.e a chronic cough. It can take 2-3 months to feel better with this, due to some of the treatment options which involve making lifestyle changes, limit fatty, fried and spicy foods, stop smoking, reduce or stop coffee, citrus and fruit juices.
The Endoscopy should hopefully provide clearer answers for you and it will be easier treat if the underlying cause is known.
If you wish to discuss anything you can call us on our Freephone nurse led helpline number on 0800 358 7200

Yes its almost a year sinse my left lobectomy and still i can hear my voice is not right, it sounds kinda squeaky at times and i can not sing like i used to. I can not reach notes. I did have some sinus trouble and post nasal drip. Doc gave me spray to use up nose every morning. It does help sinus and post nasal drip but not my voice. You can see this myst be common with lobectomy. I had mine done by vats.
Hi. I had my lung removed 8 yes ago. 7 weeks is still very early days. As the weeks go on you do get better and better but it does take time . X
