To Savanna01 and for all the kind people that have replied to my initial post.
The CT scan my wife had was not conclusive and on 28th June had a Bronchoscopy and was to wait until the results were through and an appointment was made for 11th July. However, she got a telephone call yesterday morning (Consultants meet on a Friday morning to discuss results and action plans) and suggested that the bronchoscopy was inconclusive but did not show any cancerous material. The shadow looks like an infection of some sort but they now want to do an invasive CT scan with needle biopsy recovery on Wednesday morning - a blood test also planned for the Tuesday morning to undertake a thorough blood test before the CT scan. So we have a light at the end of the tunnel, but it is dim but it is there!
We are both worried but have been thrown a life raft to cling on to.
The hurry up then watch and wait if this will drive you to the brink of insanity. 90-95% of all spots on the left by turn out to be benign and I hope that holds true for you. Do let us know the outcome.
Ticking Ticker I am praying for your wife and yourself and sending you good wishes that her next biopsy will show that it is just an infection. God Bless to you both and don't let this journey get you down. There is light and it is going to be blinding for you both. Keep Strong.
It sounds like there is a light at the end of the tunnel and positive that they didn't find any cancerous cells and infection has been mentioned. I had the CT guided needle biopsy last month and I'd just like to reassure your wife that the anticipation is far far worse than the actual procedure. I had to lie on my tummy, so did not see a thing. Every step of the procedure was explained to me and I didn't feel a thing. Not a thing. Afterwards I went back to a recovery ward for 4 hours where they monitored my vitals every 15 mins. I was a bit tired afterwards but probably due to adrenaline kicking in. They apply a dressing which I removed after 24 hours.
It is interesting that your wife's lung infection was in January which was when I last had mine. So, quite possibly the shadow is infection that hasn't cleared.
It is a very stressful time as you are still jumping through the medical hoops but very soon you will hopefully have the answers and can start moving forward. Hang in there.
That all sounds positive to me - know the waiting can seem interminable but hang on in there - better to check it out and get confirmation before going in with any invasive or nasty treatments which is why so many tests and diagnostic checks are made. Scarring and infection can cause 'shadows' on the chest x-ray so will keep fingers crossed that blood tests and needle biopsy and CT all prove good. keep the faith. good luck.
The honest and supportive generosity is moving to say the very least and considering just what you all are facing yourselves, is so unselfish I can hardly believe this is actually happening. You are all so very kind and I truly thank you from the bottom of my heart.
It is encouraging to hear and also good that they are being thorough with their investigations. Let us know how it goes for your wife and if you wish to discuss anything you can call the freephone nurse helpline on 0800 358 7200.
