Hi I've previously wrote on this about my husband lung cancer nsclc 3a which was 9.5cm and spread to limb nodes the done a lobectomy and took out 12 limb nodes in which it was n 9 .this was n Jan 16 he was to have chemo but oncologist said no as he is diabetic and elliptic it was to riskeyso the scanned every 3 months 1st one clear in March 16 2nd one in June saw a small spot on the remaining part of lung .even though it lit up n pet they said it looked ok and left him on 6months scans in till Feb thisyear 2018 they then confirm it was cancer bk and was now n cm .and it was inoperable so they give him 4wks of intense radiotherapy which he was n hospital for bcuz he cudnt eat r drink anything and dropped 3stone in over 4weeks. This was in April 18 they reached in August and said That er was to much scar tissue to see if it had gone they just x-ray every 6weeks. But he has bin n so much pain n his left side for weeks I demanded a ct with contrast for stomach chest and abdo and that came bk showing 2 spots on his spleen and need investigated so have to wait on pet scan. Wee just received a date for the pet for 4 Dec. My question is has anyone ever heard of lung cancer spread to ypur spleen thanks you x

Dear Kevin1973,

Splenic metastases from primary lung cancer is extremely rare and in one research paper the incidence of splenic metastasis from primary lung cancer has been reported as 1.2 to 5.6% . Also evidence from medical oncologists in Germany in 2017 suggest that until now, only 28 cases have been reported in the medical literature.Hopefully the medical staff will have a fuller picture after the PET scan tomorrow.

Kind regards,

All the team at the Roy Castle Helpline
