Dear Lozza1301

Sorry to hear your Dad is unwell. A lung biopsy is usually done as an outpatient, however they will assess your Dad prior to this and as he is jaundiced they may keep him in overnight or longer if required.

If you wish to discuss anything you can call us on our free nurse-led helpline number on 0800 358 7200

All the best

Hi Lozza1301. Welcome, this is a very good place to be for information and support.

Sorry about your Dad, 6 months of coughing up blood is a long time. He should have been sent for X Ray when it first happened, as he had a known lung condition! I had a lung biopsy on 13th of this month. It is done as an out patient. If no one is able to stay with him at home overnight, a bed can be booked for overnight. I got the offer, but my son arranged his nightshift so that he could be

Home. I was ok thankfully. However as the RC team said he most likely will be kept in. With his condition he should be in for further investigation for his health in general.

Take care of yourself, it’s a nerve wracking time for loved ones. The waiting for results is worrying.

I hope that yours Dads condition can be treated!

Thanks Lozza for your reply. I suggest you ring the unit he will be having his Bronchoscopy. The hospital phoned me a few days prior. So best to inform them now. They will arrange something for him. Tell your Dad being stubborn won’t save his life.

My Dad died of lung cancer and my Mum of COPD. Mum we all knew about her condition. Dad had emphysema but lung cancer was cause of death. He didn’t mention things. I told him he was to see the Doctor as his cough and weight loss was noticeable he did that’s when he found it was lung cancer. I know how you feel, rather than allowing loved ones to care and help with their problems, they suffer alone. You and your family are not to blame for this.

I hope it can be treated for him.
