Ablation

Hi All,

I am wondering if anyone has gone the ablation route with non small cell lung cancer? I had cyberknife in my lower right lung back in 2011. It was effective with minimal side effects. In 2020, the cancer came back in my upper left lung. Now in 2024, it is back in my upper right lung. Apparently I have the kind that keeps coming back. I have talked with a surgeon who can't guarantee me that he wouldn't have to do open surgery b/c the tumor seems attached to scar tissue which is attached to the lung wall. My radiation oncologist cautions about 'toxicity' from too much radiation. I am going to explore ablation and I wonder what people experience has been with that.

Thank you

Please let me know what you decide / outcome if possible. I think I have a similar situation with a recurrence along scar line from previous surgical removal of tumor in mid-right-lobe.

Wishing you best as you navigate options. I do not know much about ablation for LC. My younger sister underwent gamma knife twice (brain) - about a year apart for SCLC. She also had radiation twice on each side for super vena cava syndrome. She was Stage 4 and considered terminal when diagnosed so maybe that is why they were willing to go all out with chemo's and radiation? There was discussion of them radiating a spot on her leg too though I don't think she ended up doing that. Radiation took more out of her than chemo... the exhaustion for her was unbelievable.

Yes, I think you're correct. If she was stage 4 at the time of diagnosis then they take out all the stops. Her situation sounds horrible. I am so sorry.

you said you had the type of cancer that keeps coming back. What type do you have?

It used to be called bronchioloalveolar carcinoma. It's now called Lepidic type cancer and is multi-focal. It can become the usual lung cancer over time.

I have heard of that type. I have squamous type which keeps showing up in different places and hard to treat. Good luck to you. Hope you are able to get a treatment that works. I asked about ablation but Dr said can’t do on me cause cancer I have left now is in central airways
