Tumor leaning on my spinal cord 1.7cm

Doctors found a liaison leaning on my spinal cord measuring 1.7cm and are figuring what’s better surgery or radiation. I had radiation when I had my right lung removed in 2017 so surgery might be better. I have 7cm tumor in my chest wall they are doing a plan to radiate them chemo, we tried gemzar but it did not work, the 1.7 is creating so much pain, I’m on Norco sand Motrin and hopefully they call me for treatment today cause it hurts so bad! Any advice out there??

I had a 1.78mm cervical tumor (meningioma) removed from my spinal cord (C3-C5) in July (laminectomy with tumor resection in doctor talk). My hands had gone numb 6 mo. earlier and my gait was starting to falter by the time it was found. I was told, and backed up by my research online, that if it was not removed, it would progress to an inability to walk, incontinence and a litany of other nastiness. The neuro was able to remove all of it. At this time, my hands are 95% better, my gait is still a bit off due to numb toes on one foot. I was in the hospital for 3 nights and the staples were removed from the back of my neck 2 wks later and was released for lung surgery 1 mo. after that. I opted for radiation for the lung treatment. In what part of your back is the tumor located? Have they mentioned meningioma? Meningiomas are benign 95% of the time.

Thanks so much for responding, all I know is I had lobectomy in 2017. Then removed a 3 cm tumor out of my brain now I have a 7 cm tumor in my chest wall which the radiation dr is coming up with a plan to remove and now I Ave a terrible pain on the spinal cord up near my theatric area and I did mri yesterday and then the neurologist will look at it and let me know when I go in for surgery, it’s either surgery or radiation but I think they are shooting for surgery since they already radiated that area in 2017 with the lobectomy and surgery will be better plus I’ll do chemo

As well

I had a metastatic tumor on my spine discovered in 2019. I underwent radiation and the tumor disappeared. Not being in the medical profession all I can offer you is that radiation is a lot less troublesome than spinal surgery. As of today, I have no recurrence, however I am due a PET scan in a couple of weeks. Hope things work out for the best.

I wanted radiation but it seems like the dr days it is to dangerous to radiate by spine in thoracic spine so bring it’s not lumber surgery I should be ok - pain is killing me

First I would ask if it would be possible to get a pain reliever that doesn't require a pill every 4-6 hours. You need to get ahead of the pain and it's hard to do it that way. Ask about a fentanyl patch for 72 hour relief.

One of the members of my support group found her lung cancer because it was wrapped around her spinal cord. She had surgery then radiation to the tumor bed after. That was 14 years ago.

Sorry to read that the Gemzar isn't working. Have they talked about anything post radiation?

The Motrin has been ok with 10 Norco every 6 hours. I’m scared of patch. Denzie seems line the tuner in my chest wall is 8 cm and they are working on a radiation plan on that but that one one doesn’t hurt the spinal 1.7 cm one is killing my back, I had mri friday waiting for the numerological surgeon to get back at me I guess Monday with my radiatiologudt, both great doctors more will be revealed

Sending all the good healing mojo I can your way. I hate that you've had to experience this. But your words show me how much you've grown since lung cancer came into your life.
