My husband had a recurrence of his lung cancer and is currently undergoing treatment. He completed phase 1 which consisted of 30 radiation treatments and 6 weekly low dose chemo sessions. Phase 2 started on 2/19 with his first of 2 full dose chemo sessions. Prior to chemo, his bloodwork showed a possible kidney issue. They added hydration in addition to the pre chemo drugs and the chemo drugs. He had a repeat of his labs on 1/21 and they were good. The fatigue hit him hard after we got home from chemo. He still had extreme fatigue on 1/20. 1/21, he was better. He is slowly losing his head hair. He doesn't want to admit it. I can see more & more of his scalp. When he lose his hair in 2018 from chemo, he lost it at a much faster rate. Due to radiation, he is seeing a speech language therapist. she sent him for a modified barium swallow test. She showed us where food gets stuck in his esophagus. She has given him exercises to do. He got hoarse after the very first radiation. He also got a cough. Radiation was over on 1/15 and the hoarseness is mostly gone. He is still coughing but not as much. Skin in red and we moisturize him a few times a day. He never got any blisters, peeling/flaking skin, or itching. Radiation oncology office was no help with skin care. Thanks to others that have been through similar treatment, I came up with a skin care plan. Also thanks to others that have been through similar treatment, I had him take honey in some form before & after each and every radiation session.
When phase 2 of treatment is over, we will wait approximately 1 month and he will have a scan. If good, then it is on to phase 3 which is immunotherapy.
I have worked during his cancer treatment in 2018 and I am working now. It is so hard to work during this recurrence because there are so many more appointments than there was the first time.
