Anyone out there with SCLC that's metastasized to their liver being treated with cisplatin and carboplatin? If so, have you had any success?

My brother was diagnosed about a month ago and this is his course of treatment. He also has high blood pressure and Diabetes (weighs @165). He's 55 and has smoked cigarettes for probably over 35 years.

I hope he has a good doctor. But, he and our family are realists too. Our mother passed from this wretched disease after a long 6 year battle.

We have to have a positive attitude though. He is trying to do what he can to fight.

Any suggestions?

I firmly believe that a positive attitude goes a long way. I had SCLC and was treated with those same chemo drugs in a clinical trial 12 years ago. I also had smoked for over 30 years but had quit 3 years before my diagnosis. Although mine had not metastasized I had a plum sized tumor in my right lung. Keep fighting and be positive! Will pray for him!

As Amy says, a positive outlook is key. I know it will be harder to do because you already lost your Mom to this disease. But everyone is different. We are all here for you. I myself have lung cancer, 5 years already. So keep up the good fight!!

Thank you both. I am pretty shocked that his doctor told him that if he wants to continue smoking, he can. His reasoning is that if it soothes him, he should go ahead, the damage is already done. Not ever being a smoker, I don't have the addiction. I will not speak for it or against it or what it would be like to have to quit. I do know that our mother's doctor told her to and she did because she said that he would "kick her ass" if he knew she didn't. :)

As I said, she fought a strong fight for 6 years. He's a tough man too.

Thank you for your positive thoughts and stories!

He definitely needs another oncologist! No doc with good sense would say that. He can live longer if he stops. CBD oil with. Bit of THC oil, that will help relax him too. What stage?

I would agree. It's advanced to his liver. Unfortunately, he's limited on funds and he's also VERY stubborn. I hope I can convince him to seek other advice when I see him this weekend!

Follow up...He is in good spirits, but still sticks with his hold habits because his docs have not told him to stop. He has his next round of treatments next week. I can only pray for him to be around a while longer.
