In my twenties and early 30s I did lots of running and jogging and I had one swollen leg/foot then. I don't wish to run/jog now but do lots of physical/aerobic dancing for at least 2 hours a session and at least 3 times a week. Have had 2 swollen legs/feet for a long time now.

Yes I am a runner, I run for around an hour 3/4 times a week despite my right leg being over twice the size of my left. Do you run?

Blacky wow go you that's great I'm so glad you replied. That's real running. I have done a few 10k in the past. And did one last October for the hospice I am treated at. How does your leg react to the running and what do you wear on it? My leg seemed to be a little worse when it was measured after 10k but in the same period I was on holiday to Cyprus and it was there I noticed my leg react to the heat. But still it has made me at bit dubious about jogging again. I have entered race for life in two weeks so I need to begin. Please tell me all you can - any advice experience is useful.

Hi KMDB

I have been running for over 20 years (the last 11 with lymphodema) although at first it was hardly noticeable and didn't affect me too much, all of a sudden while on a walking holiday in Spain a few years ago my leg grew massively out of control, since then I have not been able to get it back under control but still keep on running ( it keeps me sane). I wear the really thick stocking during the day but when I run I don't wear anything ( on my leg!). I have tried the thinner stocking but find it really uncomfortable as it wrinkles behind my knee and around the ankle. my specialist nurse says that the running helps my leg but I know sometimes I do too much and my leg gets really heavy and my knee won't bend properly because it is full of fluid but I love running so much I refuse to give up. I think the key is to listen to your own body and learn how to spot the signs of overdoing it. I wish you the best of luck for your race for life - let me know how you get on.
