How do I assure that I have cleared my central drainage pathways prior to using my FlexiTouch Plus on my legs?

Tactile Medical might have an instructional video about self massage to apply while using the device - there are a few similar device instructions on YouTube.

Basically, a few minutes palpating the major node sites, with deep abdominal yoga type breaths pre and post use, will help clear the pathways.

The DVD comes with FT Plus has a section talking about importance of lymphatic/ diaphragmatic breathing before each treatment. Also, breathing periodically during and after treatment is important (don’t skip the breathing!) Some helpful videos on You Tube re diaphragmatic breathing and also videos how to palpate key nodal clusters in neck, arm pit, and groin. This US based CLT has loads of helpful videos. (this is a UK site) Do you have CLT who you could ask for advice/show you what to do?

Thank you for your reply. I will research the information that you suggested. I don't know what a CLT is

CLT = Certified Lymphedema Therapist. To find a CLT in your area head to Lymphatic Education & Research Network webpage and search their therapists directory. Did You have a Tactile Medical trainer fit your Flexitouch garments after you received them? Their practice in the past has been arranging one of their trainers going to your home to ensure pump garments fit properly and take you through how to use the control box and answer questions etc. Tactile Medical has customer support - number on their webpage

Good question. I'm aware of and practise the techniques as described by Lynora and CCT67. But I have often questioned whether I'm doing it right and whether it's having any beneficial effect. If I feel better after a pump session and don't get any new swelling I reckon I'm doing OK - hopefully.
