I wish our charities would 'use' a celebrity to make such an impact! Instead we get a weak response when headlines last month confirmed we have worst cancer care in Europe!

I think the trouble is celebs who have LE won’t step forward and be public about it for fear of it sabotaging their career which is so very based on appearances. Even in the US Kathy is exceptionally rare to have put herself in the spotlight when others in Hollywood are said to have LE but do their utmost to conceal it, due to possible damaging consequences to their career. Kathy has been very brave in that respect. Thank god for fearless women!!

For a long time many lymph therapists in the US have hypothesised that Hillary Clinton has LE in her leg/s. She has long had a tailor made her trouser suits and you’d be hard pressed to find any photos of her over the decades wearing a skirt. Perhaps some exist pre-dating Chelsea’s birth which may have triggered he Primary LE as it does for many Primary female patients. Hillarys long political career would have been stunted had she publicised LE if in fact she does have it. Her opponents would have capitalised on any weaknesses, particularly perceived ill health.

Are you a member of LE&RN? Membership is monthly $5 (£3.50) and it has been successful at raising many millions for LE and LD/ lymphatic diseases research in recent years. Although it’s based in NYC it’s a global charity. There are others with LE in US show business who have recently become more visible as celebrity ambassadors for LE&RN while Kathy is their official spokesperson.

Judy Dench is Patron of LSN but that is much different than being official spokesperson and really putting yourself out there like Kathy has done. LSN is much smaller and mainly part-time volunteer driven where as LE&RN has full time employees and bigger budget from which to start brilliant initiatives, such as the register of Lymphatic Centres of Excellence that is now getting off the ground world wide.

I think your comment highights that we don't have the fearless 'American Momma' ethic - wish we did. But our charities are also to blame. Last month when the headlines came out announcing that we had worst cancer care in Europe - there it was in black and white. Many of us get LE as a result of cancer treatment. So I phone the three largest cancer charities to ask what were they doing to capitalise on this? Nothing! Macmillan wouldn't even speak to me- their press office said they only dealt with national newspapers! So all that potential went down the drain!

It’s shameful how the cancer charities have responded to your approaches seeking a comment on their silent response to the recent headlines. Secondary LE from cancer treatment will only continue to rise with the ever increasing incidences of cancer

Well, it's their loss. I now don't cotribute any more. Instead I only give to small local charities where I know they need my funds - won't fritter them away on getting more 'brand awareness' via sickmaking TV ads!

"Breast Cancer Now " devote their work to research and better outcomes as well as improving the quality of life for patients living with the side effects of treatments for BC.

They have recently joined forces with Breast Cancer Care but are continuing to fund vital research.
