New compression knee highs
If there has been no change in your lymphoedema, and your current garments still fit well, there should be no need to remeasure. However, if you feel that your lower legs have ‘changed’, or you are having difficulties with your current garments, then you should ask the clinic if you could be reassessed before they submit the prescription to your GP.
Morning Ap8440,
My experience so far,is that I've been measured on every occasion regardless of whether my compression garments have been alright or not.
I had my first appointment at Lymphoedema Clinic almost a year ago. I was measured for a thigh-length flat knit stocking. I've been back 4 times since then, remeasured each time, and prescribed a smaller garment each time. Leg reduced from 68% larger than the unsymptomatic one back in July last year to 31% last month. When my husband asked me before each of the appointments I said I didn't think my leg had got smaller - the measurements showed otherwise.
I will ask to be measured every time until the reduction has clearly stopped - my experience has been that each time the reduction is relatively slow, and difficult to assess without measuring.
Needless to say, I'm thrilled with the improvement I've experienced!
I wear full length garment on one leg. I am always measured at numerous points to check any changes. I thought that was why I went to clinic: to monitor progress and ensure correct treatment. How can they do that if they don't measure?
I am now under self management so order my sleeves (2 per order) as part of GP repeat prescription service. My physiotherapist phones once a year to check in with me, or I could phone her if I feel I need remeasured for new size at any point. This has made life much simpler!
I'm measured every 6 months
Only if you have seen a physical change in the shape of your legs and feet etc.
I get my knee highs every 6 months through my GP, haven't been measured since I was discharged from the lymphodema clinic. They send if I found my tights were too tight or I had problems my GP would have to refer me back to them to be reassessed.
