Leg bandaging

I recently wrote a post on my up coming leg bandaging and got some very positive responses. My Lymphoedema nurse has said that I should expect to feel unwell during the week due to the release of the toxins from my system. Apparently the bandaging will speed up the release of the toxins due to the added compression. Has anyone experienced this? I tend to feel hungover if I wear a garment over night, I suppose the toxins makes that happen?

I rarely use the term ‘toxins’ but instead mention cell debris - which is held on to by the lymphatics. Bandaging and MLD encourages the lymph nodes to release this, which, in some individuals, can initiate a response - headaches, nausea, diarrhoea and a general state of ‘yeuch’ for a few days!!! Other people don’t notice any difference at all, other than increased urine output.

Up your fluid intake (water), and walk around frequently - this may reduce the side effects of DLT (decongestive lymphatic therapy). And look forward to a thinner leg at the end of the treatment!

I commuted into London and went to work everyday for the two weeks, complete with bandages in both legs. Felt fine....

I wrapped 24 hours a day for 3 weeks, worked and did all my mom jobs and felt fine other than sometimes the bandages got loose and I would have to rewrap. I atually slept better. My legs felt so good. My only problem was that my shoes wouldn't fit. I had to wear ugly Crocs all the time. Good luck!

When my legs were bandaged at the Clinic t was such a relief to more or less be free of the constant pain and the feeling of water trickling down my legs. I couldn't believe how thin my legs were at the end of the bandage treatment. Downside was shoes. Had to buy sandals that fastened with velcro for the bandaging period.
