I was diagnosed December 2017...problem being lymphoedema in both knees. Have had a course of mod and about to start a second course...very fortunate to have had this offered to me. Am thinking of buying a compression machine for around £500 but am hesitant as I don't know if I can manage it on my own. Would be grateful for any advice...sincerely ickengamgran7
Lymphoedema in both knees.: I was diagnosed December... - LSN
Lymphoedema in both knees.
Who diagnosed your lymphoedema? It is very unusual for it to be confined to knee joints - are both lower legs/ankles/feet involved too? Have you been given compression garments to try? Do you have any arthritic symptoms? What is mod - could it be MLD?
A compression machine for £500 sounds quite cheap - you may get what you pay for - the more effective devices cost thousands. You would also need to be taught self lymphatic massage for the upper body, to do at the same time as using the compression machine, otherwise it won't be effective.
Hi Vicki, I would recommend you ask your lymphoedema clinic about this. If they have a pump there, they can maybe let you try it and see if it works for you, and can advise you if the pump you are looking at is suitable for you. Good pumps mimic the action of MLD (pushing lymph fluid towards the trunk). It is best if a therapist advises you and makes sure you have the most suitable treatment plan established, tailored to your condition and abilities.
the compression machine where you place your whole leg is that what you are referring to............ I have one... for the full leg and belly don't use it ll that often
