Velcro leg supports: does anyone know when you can get... - LSN
Velcro leg supports
Most of the major compression garment providers sell them. If you attend a clinic, they should be able to measure you and advise which product would be appropriate - some are available on prescription.
I have been using them for just over a year now - wouldn't be without them! I know they are considered one of the trials and tribulations of Lymphoedema, but I find they really help me - in many ways. Firstly they seem to alleviate the pain/pressure I have in both legs. They also protect the legs from bangs and scrapes and, best of all, they have made both legs smaller in size over this year. Just been fitted for the next pair, and I have gone down a size! Feel good about that.
I get mine thru the District Nurses, who work with a Lymphoedema specialist nurse and the representative for the make of wraps I use. Not sure if I am allowed to mention the make here on the forum, but maybe i could let you know somehow?
Do try them, get someone to help you - Doctor or nurses, and just ''go for it''! After a few weeks they will feel natural to you. Good luck.
I have been using them for about 10 years. I find they help supplement my stocking reducing the swelling in my calf.

hi Everyone,
I am in my 30th year of having LE, and my 23rd year of having treatment. So far I have had various programmes of compression stockings, but now am having a month of Velcro 4-piece garment to be worn with and without my usual stocking, to see if this will reduce my knee and thigh areas. Having damaged my left arm just before Christmas last year, it still has not got its complete strength and entire lack of discomfort for movements such as tightening up this garment, but my right arm is fine, so I do my best, but need to allow about half an hour to prepare the pieces with their velcro tabs and put them on. Hopefully it will gradually take less time as I get more used to it!
I found that it's possible to sleep comfortably in just the Velcro garment, but not with the stocking as well. When I did try it this way, I was woken by strong pain in my foot from the stocking, and in the middle of the night, had to remove the whole lot to be comfortable.
I shall be checked out towards the end of this month, so MAY be able to tell you that my leg measurements have gone down.....
I wish you all the best of luck with your own problems.

Hi Skinnypants - as you can see here, Velcro wraps can be great as a reduction or maintenance tool. Not for everyone though. As a therapist, I'd recommend you see a lymphoedema therapist for advice re prescription and ordering. Like everything, you want to make the best decisions about suitable care and spending your money wisely. Velcro wraps are more bulky than traditional garments but easier to don/doff. Some people wear them over their traditional compression garments as a boost for support.
