Hello just wondering if anyone has tried cryotherapy and if so, did it have any effect on your lymphedema? I am not looking at the cryotherapy for lymphedema treatment but theoretically, I don't see any reason why it would negatively impact it but would love to hear of anyone who has tried it. Also float tank?
Thanks x

I've just had a quick look through some of my text books. Some investigation' was done into cryotherapy (sitting in a refrigerated room for short periods) in the mid 90's, but doesn't seem to feature much since then. Any volume loss was minimal and short lived.
Are you in the USA? Is this form of treatment available there?
Flotation tank: have been in one myself. Twice. Bliss!!!! As a form of relaxation - hard to beat, but not a treatment for lymphoedema.
Thanks so much Lynora, I am in Australia and there is a centre close by that does cryotherapy and float tank. Both interest me and always in the back of my mind is the question of whether this could help my lymphedema or make it flare. I will report back once I have tried them!
just been investigating as preventative measure for worsening conditions in Women's Area such as cysts on the vulva & found the mobile chamber BOC in uk & been trying to see if may help MS Therapy centre who have an oxygen chamber too & allow other conditions to access at a price .
Apparently at the moments going to the Rugby Clubs but will go anywhere for a price?
Maybe to unite is the answer as could help those like me with heart failure & microvascular? as now A&Es too far away??!! One needs to prevent !
A couple of consultant colleagues have done so, they have tried the new equipment and theorised of course on a patient by patient basis the local application of cold can benefit patients decreasing pain, swelling, even elevating mood.
The consultants have been very keen to expand on the work of colleagues, existing peer reviewed papers and more recent studies which highlighted the potential benefits of Cryotherapy as an adjunct to other treatment, a combinational approach with the latest equipment.
There is much optimism and a real thirst for further study
Unfortunately consultants have found the opposition to controlled studies by nursing and physio staff has been considerable, staff quoting age old guidelines and opinion much supports the status quo, yet often refusing often to read, learn, understand or investigate current thinking or possibilities.
Change, or at least a willingness to see another perspective is always a difficult thing - designing equipment which can operate to cover a host of clinical applications has been hugely satisfying but the its introduction and use and the adoption of the technology that has been the most surprising and interesting part for me without question
I have also found the homeopathic approach more ethical & holistic .They would be better organising the whole health service as understand the patient orientated approach a la NHS Constitution & need for flexibility .My Late Father pharmacist would say it can't be bad if the Queen has it?!
