Liz - get the therapists at the clinic when you go, to give you a blow by blow account of what is happening inside your body when you are wearing your garments.

I will have a book by the time I'm finished lol Thank you for taking the time to read and answer xw

sounds as though you may benefit from full tights to ensure the lympha doesn't collect at the top of your legs. You can get them on prescription. NNE

If your upper legs are bulging over the top of garments then you probably dont have sufficient compression high enough on your leg i.e. Compression tights may suit you better. The fluid in your legs that is accumulating is called Lymph. It is not water like we drink however it looks a bit like water in that it's a clear'ish fluid. It has another properties than water specific to how the lymphatic system functions in our body .

I suggest you ask your Lymphoedema nurse at the clinic. If you want to read/learn more the below web site has a lot information that you can peruse - it's the site for the Lymphatic Education and Research Network

lymphaticnetwork.org/

Until you are put in more suitable garments you would benefit from diaphragmatic/abdominal breathing techniques to draw the lymph up out of your legs in order to drain. This instructional video will help you learn how to breath to promote lymphatic drainage from your legs. It takes practic but I find it immensely beneficial with my legs.
