Insurance question....

Is there anyone on this board from Canada? My health coverage from work has refused to cover my preventer inhaler because they said I should be using Ventolin more. They cover the cheaper drug (Ventolin) but refuse to cover Zenhale (Dulera), or Singulair. I am surprised they cover prednisone. I am frustrated because, normally, when I am not having a flare, just MAYBE my preventer is working? Maybe that is why I don’t use my rescue as often? I tried to submit a form from my doctor stating I need this medication, but they ruled against it. Paying $200/ month is a lot since I live alone and have other bills to pay. Just wondering if anyone else has advice on how to handle Blue Cross and their crazy way of handling things??? So frustrating!

I'm not in Canada, but I am so sorry you are going through this!! My insurance is blue cross blue shield and I had to fight to get my maintenance inhaler approved. I can't take ventolin because of side effects and I had a fight to get xopenex. That particular medication coverage is the worst! The only thing I can say is that my asthmatic cat got his inhaler from Sweden. If you can't resolve it locally, maybe you can get it out of country. It was $50, including shipping for him.

Good luck! I hope you get to breathe easier!

Yup from Ontario here :) what province are you in?

Ontario has Trillium Drug Plan [TDP] for high Rx costs (~4% of yearly income) other province may have something similar.

New Brunswick. Trying to find anything g that could help me. Maybe now that I have been needing g prednisone a lot more lately, I can try again to get covered...I don’t know.
