Too much exercise and I get sick

This is my first post here. Complicated history as I have aortic stenosis (weak heart valve) and I have been in atrial fibrillation. What I thought were symptoms of my stenosis was always exercise-induced asthma. I only discovered this about 4 years ago, around the same time I first had a-fib. I am 45 now.

I like to exercise, but I find that when I try to get really fit I get sick - usually a version of the flu. So for instance, if I try to get running fit and go out for 4 x 50 minute runs a week and do some other exercise like swimming on my non-running days my immune system seems to break down.

I use Ipvent as an inhaler and also use a nasal spray in the morning. I eat healthily and don't drink excessively.

Is this just the new normal and I need to accept I am unlikely to get properly fit again or should I change my treatment regimes?

I take Singulair and I don't know if it can help with exercise related asthma. I would look at nutrition. Getting really fit means you can be leaning out, which can stress the immune system. I would see if a doctor is willing to give you advice, or you may need blood work. It could even show low vitamin D or something.

Make sure you eat food, food has food in it. Protein drinks, etc. really are not nutrition. Lots if fruits, veggies. Etc. Nice lean meat, fish, legumes for protein. It's good to take multivitamin.

I've had the same problem when I've lost weight, by the way. Maybe respect your body and get a little extra rest when you know youve pushed your fitness pretty hard - like pacing yourself.

Also ensure youre really really hydrated all the time.
