I started my nucala shots yesterday on June 1. And I'll get them every month and I had great experience at palmetto infusion services they treat you very well. June 2 today I had surgery wish me well and for a speedy recovery I'm right handed and I had surgery on my right and it's kind of hard. Doctor gave me some medicine help for surgery I took them and it caused me go in a asthma attack and couldn't breath and I was informed to stop it completely

What was the medicine that triggered the attack if you don’t mind my asking? I hope you’re ok now. That sounds scary!

Hi, Sharaybia! So sorry to hear about the medication reaction - what was it? Be sure you alert all your doctors and your pharmacist (they’ll put it in your medical record at the pharmacy and make sure no drugs prescribed for you through them will cause the same reaction).

Hope you heal quickly from the surgery, and that the Nucala helps you. Give your mom my best wishes!

Hugs!

Thank you the medicine called bactrim for surgery but thing is I took it in past but don't remember no type of signs but since I started new medicine and took that on top that could cause a problem

Bactrim, in my experience, is easy to develop problems with. It was one of the earliest for me.

I didn't start out allergic to antibiotics. In fact, I gradually became allergic to them after my big crisis with toxic mold in the '90s. During those years, I developed bad side effects from them, then really bad side effects, then allergic responses. Usually they were ones I'd taken for years for common infections without a problem. Now, I am considered allergic to all antibiotics. That's not technically true -- I have such severe reactions that one of them on top of something else might be what would kill me. But doctors consider me allergic -- it's safer to think of me that way.

If I get an infection that is serious enough that we have to do one of the antibiotics with bad, but not deadly, side effects, they will put me in the hospital in a special infection-containment room (so I'm not exposed to anything else) and then administer it slowly and carefully while treating whatever problems crop up.

Good news is that's the plan. Better news is so far we haven't had to put it into action. (I like plans we haven't had to actually use.)

Good thing you know how. And hopefully they are handling the infection (or was it prescribed "just to be safe"?) well without it, and that you are healing well.

Stay positive, girl. You'll get through this. Say hi to your mom for me. Hugs

d2read thank you and she said hey how are you doing it was prescribed to me take for surgery since that happen I stop immediately but haven't had a problem since than surgery went well but my blood pressure was kind of up but other than that it was successful now I'm healing. I think because I started new medicine it didn't agree with it so now when I go to hospital or doctor office they said make sure I put allergic to sulfur but I'm glad that your doing great and no other type of measurements were taken far as u been admitted to hospital. Take care of yourself

That's great, Sharaybia. You need to tell them you are allergic to "sulfa" drugs (sounds the same, but they are different). A lot of time surgeons like to have patients take antibiotics before surgery, but in my opinion, unless there's a really good reason to take them, it's better not to. And "we always prescribe them before surgery" isn't a very good reason.

We're in the hot and humid part of summer in DC, where I live -- which is not my lungs' favorite time of year (that would be cold and snowy winter -- LOL). So other than going to the farmers' market in my neighborhood yesterday, I've been staying indoors with the air conditioner and dehumidifier both running. Working on my website and practicing for my art class (very frustrating -- it's been 30 years since I've taken an art class and we're using pastels -- chalks, which are very tricky). But it's good for me.

Keep healing, take care of yourself and have a good rest of summer!

Debbie

Thank you true it's on my top list make sure I tell them I stay in south Carolina but I'm in deep south and weather here very tricky I dont like heat as well i b stuffy but when I'm home I b in cool all days to me it helps me breath better and I feel great. That's great what you're doing I never took art once in my life but I can't draw so I don't try to but my mother and my sister can draw I let them have that. I wouldn't mind working on things like that but I afraid of my asthma but my mother always tell me dont let that scariness ruin my life enjoy life you're young I know she means well but as almost 28 years of life asthma played a big part of my life constant running to hospital doctor office being on ventilator bring admitted to hospital trying new things and things are quite great as we speak I started my nucala injections which is a once month shot and they said if it works great I might can come off my medication excited go hear but sometimes I feel like I can't complete a task cuz I get tired but its expected because I'm asthamatic but when I'm great I go for everything

Oh, honey, your mom's right. You only get one trip round the merry-go-round called life, and I believe strongly that I'd rather die doing something I love and am good at (or bad that I enjoy) than watch the years fly past and realize there's still an end to it all -- except I never lived. I know how terrifying asthma can be, but there are still ways to try new things.

And how do you know you can't draw if you've never tried? My mom, who will be 90 in December, always wanted to learn to paint watercolors, especially. But paint. But the few times she found time enough to try, she thought they weren't any good and stopped. With kids and running a business and my dad, and us kids being sick -- no time. (And she never had asthma -- until she turned 65. Then she got the really bad kind.) My dad died young, and she was remarrying, and her husband (they both continued to work -- still do) said just take a class for fun.

She turned out, after a lot of work, to be a wonderful painter. Now she has really bad arthritis in her hands, so she has trouble holding a paintbrush with the really careful control you need with watercolors. So instead of crying about it (most of the time), she's switched to other media -- pastels and acrylics, a little oil painting, mixed media collages. Her work is wonderful and everyone who sees them loves them. But she would have never picked up that brush if she kept thinking she had to be good from the beginning.

We become good through lots of work, just like in school. Sure some people have a talent -- like my mom. Some people just learn more about it and enjoy trying (like me). But what matters most is to keep trying new things. And keep doing things -- even things that scare you.

Because otherwise, we haven't really lived. We've just existed in fear. I want so much more than that for you, my friend. So look up some videos on YouTube. And try something. Anything. And let us know how it goes. Hugs!
