Some advise please ?
I believe tomatoes are not on the induction period .
But I am making Melanzane parmigiana and it calls for 1kg tinned tomatoes. The recipe does however serve 6
I am going to swap the plain flour for almond flour

Assuming you’re not going to eat all 6 portions in one go, I wouldn’t worry too much. It may slow things down a little at around 6g of carbs/portion, I think. If you’re only just starting the induction phase maybe postpone until you can commit fully. (Although I never did an induction period, not sure it was around when I went low carb.)
How old are you? 🧓 Atkins invented the induction phase in the 70s. 🤭
Doh! I just never gave Atkins a thought. I tend to think of induction phase as the Diet Dr 2 week induction. I was around in the 70’s but never needed to give dieting a thought then, sigh.
I didn't need to back then either, but I did 😔
But if you went low carb prior to the induction phase, that means it was before Atkins. So, that you are a follower of William Banting, perhaps. 😂
I agree. I am not sure of the need for induction. I am eating about the same amount of carbs I was in January, I don't see any reason to up it. I'm less strict, I guess, but I wasn't that strict in at first either. I ate a bag of oranges and celebrated a carby Christmas.
That'd be my take on it, too. Tomatoes are a bit "sugary", but if Hidden completed a two-week induction already, it's probably not a big deal.
It's easy to get way too obsessed with carbs on LCHF. The worst that can happen is that you'll get a few days of stalled weight loss.
I never stopped eating tomatoes, onions, garlic etc. If you want to know how much carb is in a food, google it..

Google gives answer immediately.
Or use an app. I used cronometer. You can create a recipe, define it as having 6 servings and it will tell you the carbs per serving. Beware, I find I eat bigger servings now.
What role does the flour play in the recipe? Almond flour won't thicken a sauce or make bechemal.
I used this Jamie Oliver recipe (I think). Only change required was leaving off the breadcrumbs.

Will check that out to - thanks
I just realise that this version follows Hidden prescription, but I think it was a good way of making it. The aubergine is fried on a dry pan, he used a griddle, I used to cast iron pans. I used a mixture of courgettes and aubergine because I didn't have enough of either. I rather underestimated how much was required.
The standard recipe coats the aubergine in flour to crisp up. I will be interested in how almond flour works instead. It's likely the flour also thickens the sauce somewhat, which almond flour will not do.
It was delicious...will work out nutrients later.
I do not think you can mess up this dish, any variant will be delicious.
Or even simpler, check out diet doctor low carb guides. Tomatoes are green

Thank you
Ok thanks for all that advise
But Moonrise is following LCHF, not just LC.
You have cut back on olive oil, and it’s great you are making your own choices and have lost a lot of weight, but many of us would not cope with LC without the fat too. As TheAwfulToad has said somewhere, low carb low fat is just living on fumes.
I'm going with Hidden on this one. The Oliver recipe, assume a glug of olive oil is about a tablespoon, and 3 large handfuls of parmesan is about a cup and include the mozzarella, is 55% of calories from fat. That feels like plenty to me. Soaking the aubergine in oil would not make it better.
Note: most of the carbs (12g/serving) comes from the aubergine, then the cheese, then the tomato.
Didn't miss the egg, either, though I will try a recipe that includes it next time I make it.
Ok. I had not read the recipe. I just think it’s important we don’t frighten people away from fat. You’ve been very public about cutting back on what are normally considered healthy fats in avocados and olive oil, and I wanted to offer the more conventional LCHF perspective. It is quite possible to lose weight without cutting back on fat. I personally do not believe that olive oil is junk food. We’ll have to disagree and Moonrise can tell us how the recipe works out.
Do you think imam bayildi is junk food?? 🤯 Aubergine cooked in olive oil is a great Mediterranean and Middle Eastern combination. It is the opposite of junk food.
