Well the pounds are slowly going and I am managing to keep to 150 gms of carbs most days which is mostly from fruit n veg. I do miss my brown toast but not too bothered about the potato, rice or pasta and been enjoying my full fat yog and dark chocolate But I go over my calories some days and definitely need to count them .....well on way to first stone loss since 2 Jan .....and husband as well. Clothes definitely looser😁

breakfast 368 cals.....could have had half avo and piece bread for cals but will see if I don’t get hungry till lunch🐷🙄😇🥰

If you go "over your calories" and yet you're still losing weight, then surely that demonstrates there's no actual need to count them :)

Try to relax and enjoy your food. LCHF works just fine without the pseudoscience.

I've actually been thinking 'Oh this can't be right" I'm eating foods I enjoy, not feeling hungry and losing weight, although it's early days.... I don't count calories, just have a list of low carb veg and fruit, and chuck in some meat/chicken/fish/eggs/cheese/butter/Olive oil/herbs/spices...... The odd coffee and vodka/soda, along with my water. No counting, just eating without using packets or tins, it's really so simple that one thinks it can't be right?? I shop from the outside of the supermarket and am spending less, though I still get my grandkids ice lollies and biscuit treats (which I never touch anyway).... I feel like it surely can't be this simple???

Yeah, it takes some time for it to sink in. At some point you have to explain to yourself, well, all that stuff about "calories" was a load of old cobblers. I was duped. I fell for a big fairy story. Once you get past kicking yourself, it's very liberating, because it really is that easy. Just avoid the stodge and your body will figure out everything all by itself. You don't need to meter out your calories or your protein or whatever. If you need it, your body will ask you to eat it.

When you see a whole load of nutritionists queuing up outside the dole office, you'll know we're making good progress towards healthy eating for all :)

I am a 🐷 so portion control and weighing is my self control. I am only losing because I am tracking. I know I won’t discipline myself just yet. Once we lose what we want and can maintain we will stop tracking but for now we are happy doing it this way while our motivation is here. 🤪

It's hard to let go and trust your body to do the right thing. I understand. Good luck. You'll get there :)

Whatever works for you is great, I am an absolute garbage guts, normally keep eating even if I'm full but maybe I've had a mind set change cos I've actually been leaving food... I just know if I buy a kilo of chicken breasts that's roughly 250gm each, same with steaks, salmon is really expensive so I only buy that in smaller portions.... I don't weigh my veg and I've only had fruit once in the past 2 weeks and that was a whole punnet of berries and I enjoyed the lot, I love Cheese but even I can only eat small wedges or it gets sickly..... I got on the scales today, I only weigh weekly and another 700gm down, that's 4.5kg in 3 weeks, I know I'll plateau or slow down but because I don't feel like I'm dieting I don't really care.... My only issue is I haven't eaten out yet, but I'm sure it's do-able. All the best with it all Lillykims.... You do what's right for you

I have found eating out in restaurants straightforward. Steak & slab of fish with extra vegetables, and hold the fries. Emergency fast food is possible but not optimum (I have a smallish boy) - fried chicken, though there are more carbs than I would choose in the crumb. The next stop is to get a burger & give the birds the bun (but not the ducks in the dark, because they eat too much refined white bread too...). Cafes & coffee shops are the killers. It’s all about toasted sandwiches. Starbucks might have a slightly sad looking salad in a box, but I need to eat 3 of them (and I might as well have gone for out for a steak). I have also concluded that my favourite hippy hipster cafe (that I drag my son to on sufferance) in the nearby hippy town, is off limits now because it’s all quinoa, chickpeas, beets & sourdough - and that’s more of a temptation than cake for me 😔.

Oh yes.... Totally have to avoid my old Vegetarian/Vegan Coffee shops, there's a couple close by that offer low carb breakfasts, usually involving Smashed Avo, I'm not afraid of saying to friends I don't want to eat somewhere and pick somewhere appropriate, but if it's a group booking I have no choice. Going to a farewell for a colleague next week in a pub, pubs are okay cos a chicken breast or steak are always an option and most over here offer salad bars. I Love Thai and Vietnamese too, but theres definitely good choices at both... Although I'm off Thai a bit after going there a cpl of months ago and getting "Thai Tummy" My friend who is a Carnivore was eating everything Tail to Nose and was fine, I scoffed lots of rice and salads and.... Well it wasn't pretty 😂😂😂

Oh I Love Sourdough and really dark Rye bread with real butter, but I know down the track I can have it again.... Sourdough with a perfectly cooked poached egg that oozes, with a shaving of fresh parmesan... I'd rather have that than a "Deconstructed Raw Smoothie Bowl" I mean, come on, what a wank.... It's Berries and seeds and Yoghurt with coconut milk on the side, but they can charge double to all the urban hipsters 😉

in reply to Aussie64

Just discovered I have been eating a deconstructed smoothie bowl for breakfast all this time 🤣

Yep. That’s me. Hip.

It’s very hilarious that the healthiest thing seems to be going back to an aristocratic Edwardian breakfast...

Not at all I like advice and seeing what others have to say BUT if me and my husband could have self control and will power and good life habits we wouldn’t have got a few stones heavier each.....I still think calorie counting and weighing and 150 carbs the best for us atm and we can carry on and not have to start all over again after our next holiday or cruise🐷😱

Now you've got rid of all the "junk" you may be surprised to see how easy it is to get below 100 carbs a day :)

Lillykims profile image
Lillykims in reply to cheritorrox

I was never a big junk food eater really just too much portion wise of good stuff.....most meals from scratch but too much bread, fruit and guesstimating mostly my downfall 🙃
