No more eggs

Following the LCHF on my second week and don't know if I can manage, I can't eat eggs any more and can't find another breakfast option that don't contain eggs or takes to long as have to be out of the house early, does anyone have any tips how to overcome this , the rest of the diet is easy to follow and I have enjoyed, skipping breakfast is not a option as have to take a lot of medication first thing .

Is it not also high in carbs , sure it's a no no on low carb

No it's fine. Lidl's full fat Greek yogurt is 2.7g net carbs per 100ml. Of course, like any food, you don't over eat it. I have it for breakfast 2 or 3 times a week. You can also have bacon and sausage. 😊

Do you like bacon and sausages? You can add some salad also.

What were your go to breakfasts before LCHF?

There are various LCHF 'breads' you may like, both on Dietdoctor and elsewhere. I seem to be happy to leave out bread at the moment, but make some for my husband. I assume you didn't fancy trying the

dietdoctor.com/recipes/judy...

which I mentioned before. As I wrote before, 'I have made up a large batch and ground it in a food processor. I cook it on the hob as it overflowed in the microwave and I use ⅓milk, ⅓cream and ⅓water. I am sure it wouldn't be to every one's taste, but I really like it!' This is what I have to replace my muesli which I ate six days a week before moving to LCHF explore mode. I've actually started to have a smaller portion than suggested.

Would a hunk of cheese, choose your favourites, suit? Seriously fit the bill for speed, or some nuts, pecans, brazils and macadamia are all 5g of carbs/100g or less.

I tutor at home rather that going out to work, so no longer have the same time pressure. I certainly feel I have not yet sorted the LCHF way, but now weigh less than I have for 50 years, so that helps to keep me motivated. I have always cooked from scratch, but I do feel that I am spending more time cooking than before and would like to reduce that. Work in progress. All the best with your journey, I do hope that you find some breakfast options that work for you. 😊💐

I have a smoothie to start - it's basically berries and coconut cream, coconut oil, coconut yogurt, and some nuts with stevia to sweeten (as the berries are tart). I follow that up with 2 poached eggs, bacon, and mushrooms and courgette sauteed in butter, but you could leave the eggs out and bump up the mushrooms and courgette.

Or pre-prepare aubergine slices and sautee those and pile the bacon and mushrooms on top.

I mix up a huge jar of ground coconut, chia seeds, flaxseeds, pumpkin seeds in a jar and soak 40g in half whole milk half water (change the ratio to your taste) overnight as per overnight oats. It's really nice. Peanut butter makes it more decadent, or almond butter if in induction phase of keto.

For induction phase you could also use diluted cream instead of whole milk.

in reply toStoozie

That sounds tasty. You're making me want to eat breakfast again ;)

What kind of peanut butter do you use? Looking at Skippy brand (the only one I can buy), it's about 60% fat, 20% carb, 20% protein. I imagine they have added sugar for taste :(

Asda smartprice is surprisingly low sugar. Or I make my own in the blender :)

Unfortunately the Walmart near me closed some time ago. And I've not got a blender, yet!!

Greek yoghurt with berry compote is also my ‘go to’ when I don’t fancy eggs. I make the compote by cooking a punnet each of blueberries and raspberries with 10g butter and mashing them. Lasts me 5-6 servings. I also put 3 tsp chia seeds in the yoghurt.

To make my scrambled eggs less eggy I put chia seeds in them and wilt some chopped spinach before adding the eggs. Tasty 😋

One simple answer is a cup of coffee with a slug of double cream. Will keep you fuelled till at least lunch.

Also keto granola (recipe on diet doctor) with almond milk.

Oh, and John West tinned kippers are fantastic. Eat them hotor cold - no bones whatsoever!

When I don't fancy eggs, I have a mixed grill of two ASDA chipolata sausages, a slice of back bacon, two grilled tomatoes halved and brushed with a little olive oil and a pinch of oregano on top, with fried mushrooms. Everything can be prepared and put under the grill whilst the sausages are cooking.

Oops, I forgot to say, black pudding can be very low in carbs. It sounds like you're not in the UK, though. Here in Scotland, the black pudding is very meaty; the "Howie" brand is excellent for taste and carbs; one slice goes a long way to adding interest and spice to your breakfast.

I can’t find low carb and gluten free black pudding, the bury gf one is way too high in carbs, just ordered some dried blood to make my own low carb one (Lady Macbeth!). The Simon Howie tastes so good though, but now has gluten ☹️. Where are you getting low carb black pudding? I am in Scotland.

kleineKerze profile image

Sorry, I forgot the gluten-free requirement. The Simon Howie isn't any good to you then.

It's not low carb overall, just worth it for the sacrifice of 2.3g for a slice which adds a lot of interest and taste to a breakfast. I'm in Scotland, too - in sunny Edinburgh (and it really is sunny to-day!).

Good luck in your search for something suitable. As for having to order your own blood - happy handwashing, Lady M!

I don't eat egg as I can't stand the smell of texture of it.

I have Greek yoghurt and a few grapes most days. (I'm not following a very low carb as I'm nursing so I believe its recommended to only follow moderately low carb so some fruit is ok).

A couple of days a week I have sausages left over from the previous night dinner or from the work canteen.

Weekend treat bacon, avocado and soft cheese.

I'm new to this but think they are ok!

What about a chia pudding? 2tbsp of chia seeds soaked overnight in coconut milk (the carton kind), which I think has just 2g net carbs. Add a dollop of almond butter for flavour, or some berries :)
