Hi everyone. I started Lchf 2 weeks ago. Lost 3 lbs first week. 2nd week put one back on. I have 14 Lbs to lose. I know this is a way of eating and not a diet but would be interesting to have some responses about typical weight loss after a month and whether you found this way of eating easy to stick to. Thanks

Hi, I've been doing LCHF since I discovered it after I was diagnosed with steroid induced T2 diabetes back in November. I bought a blood glucose meter in December and started eating to the meter - in other words I tested before and two hours after every meal and I recorded my levels and everything I ate. So far I have gone from 72.9kgs to 62.8kgs. I didn't actually do it to lose weight although I obviously needed to lose weight, I did it really to get my HbA1c lowered but the weight loss has been amazing.

I also discovered by use my BG meter that even the healthiest of grain based carbs spikes my blood enormously so im avoiding them completely. Jacket potatoes are out yet I've discovered I can eat three or four baby new potatoes. I get my carbs from vegetables now and according to my Fitbit I'm actually eat quite a lot of carbs - more than I thought I was. It obviously depends a lot where the carbs come from and in my case it has to be from veg.

I never snack between meals and I haven't had chocolate since September, I drink water too rather than have diet drinks. I now eat seeds and nuts with a little bit of mixed dried fruit in the mix.

I LOVE LCHF. I don't feel it difficult to stick to, I bought a copy of Carbs and Cals from Amazon, eating out isn't a problem either. I went totally GF back in September and I have to say I did wonder how I'd get on being GF and LCHF but it's not been a problem. It is really working for me as a way of life. I'm sure you will get on fine.

Thanks Fruitandnutcase. I can see you are doing great. Do you miss sweet things. I have a sweet tooth so it is a miss without biscuits and sweets and cake :( will have to persevere though as fed up with my big stomach. My waist is same size as my hips ugh !!

I don't really miss sweet stuff. The closest I came was a couple of weeks ago when I baked a cake for my son to take to work. It was a Victoria sponge with butter icing and raspberry conserve in the middle and icing on top. The smell of it and the texture when handling it made me feel I could easily have eaten a (big!) slice but generally I don't miss sweets, biscuits, chocolate etc at all.

My waist was always big - well I don't think I ever really had much of a waist - but with my new eating regime I am actually getting one. I've even gone into the 'green zone' on the special waist measuring tape I got from Amazon. I honestly never thought I'd see that.

I would be happy with just 4 inches difference between my waist and hips so Im not like a sack of spuds ! Sat here in the office canteen with my tuna salad and trying not to look at all the carby food on offer ! I must keep going though because I am worried about this excess stone of fat around my heart and liver !!

I was on a health study and the poor guy doing the measuring found it hard to work out why there didn't seem to be a gap between my bottom ribs and my hip bones - think I'm what they would call short waisted! Like you say a sack of spuds :)

Good for you ignoring the carby foods - when you look around carbs are everywhere aren't they.

I'm like you I just keep thinking that I just don't want a fatty liver.

Have you read David Cavan's book Reverse Your Diabetes? Even if you haven't reached that stage - unfortunately I did - it is all about LCHF - well that's where I found out about LCHF and it is really inspirational - gives you loads of help with LCHF.

Hi. I had my gallbladder out and a year later had some pain so was sent for a scan to look at bile duct. The lady said my bile duct ok bit pointed out I have a fatty liver. I was really shocked as I am prob only a stone overweight. I have never been tested for diabetes. Would that show up on a normal blood panel or is it a specific test? Thanks

I'm not sure. I suppose it depends on whether or not they test your blood glucose. I imagine they probably do because they knew I was pre-diabetic and I wasn't aware of ever having had that checked. You could always say you are worried about your levels because of the fatty liver and ask the practice nurse to do it for you. It's just a fingerpick. If your levels are higher than they should be then they can follow that up. They won't give you a meter though, you have to buy your own and they will very likely give you dietary advice that includes carbs with every meal - totally disastrous for me.

I think you can have a fatty liver without being overweight though, and you also get non alcoholic fatty liver. You should read up on it - the David Cavan book and the Michael Mosely books bath talk about how to deal with that.

Know how you feel. As for other health issues - annoying how once you get one health problem you seem to get a whole lot more to go with it. The things I've got are unlikely to go away, I'm just hoping to keep them at bay for as long as I can.

Yes that is exactly how I feel. I am trying to make sure that I am treating my body as best as I can to alleviate other symptoms and ward off any more issues. I pnly wish I had started earlier. We all think we have loads of time to get our act together then the damage is done. Hopefully some of it is reversible.

Gluten free food. I've gone gluten free in an attempt to reduce my antibodies - I've only been completely gluten free for six months but they have come down by a massive amount.

Hi Tessica, this is my story, but bear in mind that I had an awful lot more weight than you to lose :)

Thanks more less. You are an inspiration and are clearly very determined. I wonder if a lot of people find low carb difficult to stick to because you cannot have sugar and cake etc? Quite difficult to give it up for good ??

I haven't found it difficult at all. It's more difficult to not eat cake, if you are still eating carbs, if that makes sense :)

Sugar is addictive, like nicotine and heroine, if you cut it out of your diet, after a short while, you stop craving it :)

Most of the other people in this community have been following the LCHF way of life for years with no problems. I hope I shall be just the same :)

Good luck with your journey :)

Hey, I've recently started lchf and lost a few pounds in couple weeks. Really not sure if I'm doing it right or not as I'm vegetarian I'm eating a lot of cheese and keep thinking of cream as fat.. No idea how to work out carbs/protien/fat ratio but basically pretty much only eating vegetables, cheese, eggs, nuts and adding butter and coconut oil to things!! Oh yeah, and, well, I love dark chocolate... I've recently discovered hot cocoa with cream.. not sure if having 2-3 of these in a day is really going to help me loose weight and be healthy?!?!! I also eat berries with yoghurt or whipped cream and grated dark chocolate.. and have had a few citrus smoothies...

I keep worrying that I will gain weight with the extras, I guess I can get stricter if I need to be. So far I am really enjoying the new food and feel like my diet is a lot healthier than before.

Also, I found these dessert recipes tonight in case they are helpful..

Hi,

Like you I'm not sure that I am getting percentages right. I'm not vegetetian but I did read that you should be cautious with amount of cheese as it has lots of calories. Have you looked at dietdoctor.com for advice? There are some great success stories on there.
