Environmental causes of ITP?

I am 77y and have had ITP, with a range of severity, of since childhood. I maintain a low platelet level with low doses of prednisone. My 7 year old standard poodle also has ITP and also takes a low dose of prednisone (how great to being sharing meds with your dog!). This "coincidence" leads me to ask whether there is evidence that environment can promote ITP? Thanks ahead of time.

In the case of humans we have to be genetically pre disposed to develop ITP albeit just because we have the genetic make up to develop ITP it does not mean that we will definitely do so.

There has to be something that triggers the ITP and this will be different for different people and at different stages in life too. You can develop ITP at any time.

Factors such as a virus, a reaction to a vaccination, infection, or a medication could be the trigger for some. Other things like a reaction to stress, a life event like bereavement , diet/nutrition might also be a trigger but the truth is we cannot be sure in every case. It could, of course be a combination of triggers.

We do know of course that ITP develops quite often during pregnancy and often soon after child birth, so that is a clear and obvious cause/trigger.
