I had itp since 5 years came when I was conceived. normally my platelet hangs around 1 k to 35 k. Occasionally it shoots to 60 or 70 k also for some days without any medication. Last month I got an stroke due to brain hemorrhage and caused damage to one eye sight, recent memory losses, speech issues as paralyzed effect but timely help the damage was minimised and currently in recovering stage. At the time of brain hemorrhage my platelet went on to nearly 80k. Doctors not able to figure out this resulted as brain hemorrhage or a Stoke. Wonders why this was happened.

Hi khaki, do you have ITP, are you receiving treatment by a Hematologist if so what? What is your platelet count, are you bruising ?

I started treatment with Nplate (romiplostim) in 2010 to maintain my platelets between 40-80 thousands. When our platelets are 10 thousand or less we are at greater risk of bleeding in the brain with a head injury, so no more skydiving! The goal of my treatment is to maintain my count at 50 thousand; unfortunately my counts fluctuate between 14-80 thousand depending on physical and emotional health. Please feel free to contact me any time if you other questions, be well:)

Well we can get either a stroke or brain hemorrhage but ITP is not necessarily the cause and you can avoid it by looking after yourself, see the ITP website for more details.

Hi, I have had ITP for 15 yrs and have no medication unless I need an op. I do take meds for high blood pressure. I am a recently retired mother of 4 and lead a relatively normal life, maybe tiredness is the worst I suffer. I rarely bleed and have the odd bruise and currently only need see my hemo yearly. Hope you recover soon

What treatment are you currently receiving for your ITP? Do you have any other medical issues such as high blood pressure or diabetes, how often do you have a CBC with platelets drawn, what was your platelet count when you had the brain hemorrhage? I’ve been on this site for over a year and continue to be stunned when I hear members say that their doctors will not treat them until have nosebleeds; in the US this behavior would be considered negligence or malpractice. Where do you live? Learn as much as you can about ITP and advocate for your self, the more you know the better the care you will receive. Be well:)

Occasionally I was on Prednisone but normally i do not take any medication. Bleeding happened me 3 years ago. Normally I do not bleed. My count was nearly 70 k when haemorrhage happened. Hence doctor not classified as haemorrhage or stroke. Currently iam on blood thinners and neuro medicine.

You are fortunate to have the ability to maintain a platelet count of 70K without medication most of us are not. I require weekly injections to maintain a baseline of 30-80K which dropped to 14k with in seven days due to an acute episode of depression following the death of my friend. It took 5 weeks of Nplate to achieve a count of 30K. How often do you get labs drawn given the fact you are now on blood thinners. My platelets drop if I eat too much salmon or almonds or any thing high in omega 3 oils.

What blood thinners or you taking, Warfain (Coumadin), Lovonex or something else? Be well:)

Hi kyria. I was on ecospirin and other neuro medicine s. Anticoagulant drugs are just started by hemo. Yes many days and months I was on zero platelet counts when I was conceived. I posted below posts as well healthunlocked.com/itpsuppo.... Normally we may live a healthy life with single digit platelet also unless bleeds. I saw Itp pill's side effect more than the benefits it given.
