55 is fine, lots of people have a count less than that without meds and lead a normal life. In Belgium they don't do anything til the count is 10 or less, or you are bruising all over and bleeding a lot.

Platelets alter from day to day. I've had a count of 19 and the next dat it was 39. Focus on how you feel, not the numbers.

Hi Jimmy, I failed Dexamethasone, IVIG and Rituxan before I was started on Nplate weekly injections in 2010 to maintain my platelets between 30-80K. The goal of Nplate is to maintain a count of 50K which is adequate to maintain a fairly active lifestyle. My counts fluctuate with illness, increased stress and depression.

Splenectomy can be very effective but requires lifelong antibodies. There are several members who have had excellent results perhaps they can share their journey with you. In the meantime live your life and hang in there until a cure is found.:) Georgia in Chicago

Chicago .. north side .. I am from philly and now in cape coral florida till I get straightened out ???????? isn't N PLATE the same as promacta ?? I take the oral 4 3 weeks now and 2 weeks ago 60k and 55k last week so I don't know if the reduction of prednisone will cause me to dip back down ??prednisone is no good … I read that remission is possible during the first year after diagnosis ?? who knows ??? for the past 10 years my platelets have always been 68k to 84k and they never told me of the problem till the big dip in December .. doctor said low blood platelets was the norm for me .. he was on crack .. lol .. stay in toch .. jimmy

68-84 is great, and 55 is good too. Mine have been chugging along at 38 more or less for about 3 years now. Doesn't stop me doing anything except contact sports, drinking too much, and is a great excuse for avoiding the ironing!!

I was working a 60 hour week teaching when mine were 55+.
