Vaccination

I would be really grateful for opinions on vaccination here. I must do one unfortunately. Would be great to know if anyone had vaccinations and whether it was ok. I am in remission and have to do a vaccination but worried about relapse. The only time I did vaccinations was before rituximab and I was already in relapse at that point. Many thanks!

Avoid if possible.

I would suggest you watch the documentary series "Vaccines Revealed" before you make a decision. Some vaccines are known to have the possibility to trigger itp amongst their side effects.

I had a suspicion that my daughter's ITP was due to an immunisation she received. Having suggested this to consultants at the hospital I was told, "It could be." Her count went up from 19 to 78 and she was coping. She deferred an injection for a year... then had it. Her platelets plummeted to just 5. If I had been more aware I would have advised her not to have the injection. Living with ITP at a count of 5 is proving extremely difficult. Just our experience....

Sorry to hear about your daughter... From what I read on ITP Support website, ITP can be caused by vaccines (for MMR the ratio is 1 in 23,000) but chronic ITP has no greater chance of a relapse - apparently, less than in the case of infection itself (1 in 3000). So hard to understand the ways of this illness. Mine was not caused by immunisation, but I still don't know what to expect.

I went to a wedding in Ireland from Canada for a week and was given 75ml steroids for the duration. I was given IVIG 2 days before to get my count up above 20 and he let me fly. I was tired of course but the change was really good for me and kept me going mentally for ages after.

i had the flue jab this year for the first time. Two weeks after I got a bad cold but also had about 10 blood blisters in my mouth and on my tong my platelets went down to 3,but they only sit at about 7 anyway. But blood blisters were very sore I had to take a high dose of steroids prednisolone for a week, untill the blisters went. So not sure weather I would have the flue jab or any other sort of vaccine. But everybody reacts in a different way.

I was told by my consultant it was OK to have my flu jab in October last year, I had no adverse reactions (I was treated with Rituximab about 11 months ago), I have a feeling 'dead' vaccinations are OK but not 'live' ones

Thank you! The one I need to have is live but I will talk to my consultant tomorrow.
