my prednisolon is withdrawn for last 3 month and now for 2 wek my count is 31k dr want again on prednisolon how can i avoid predni dose.

I know how you feel I hate prednisone and its gnarly stuff, I took 120mg it sent my platelet levels to 158k, dropped back to 60mg and I dropped to 58k. we are going to try a treatment called Rituxan its a 4 hr. I.V. drip that we hope will reboot my immune system. I am hoping this works and ill check in with you and let you know. its something to look into anyways.

Hi Madhumita. You will have seen from this websiste there are many medicines that can be tried for ITP. Pred. is the first one tried by all doctors and specialists especially by those who are not specialist heamatologists in ITP. Ask for another drug or have a second opinion from a specialist in ITP, there are a number around the UK and a list of centres is available on the ITP Support Association web site ( a link is available on the home page ). Equally, there is a report produced by a group of international specialists on the treatment of ITP also on the support group website. Good luck.

Hello madhumita, yes I have been on Prednisone npw for 5 weeks starting with very high dosis. I really didnt get along well. Now Im down to 20 mg per day so its more barable. I actullay boght a book on Amazone called "Coping with Prednisone" which I found was very helpful and also comforting and inspiring. I guess everybody react different In my case I tried a rather strict Gluten/Lactos/Suger/Salt and Fat free diet. And I feel better and dont have that bad side effects. Hope this can be of some help and good luck.
