Good morning all. Before I was admitted to ICU and put in an induced coma, my heart rate was around 78-82 resting. Since I was woke up my resting heart rate is averaging 130bpm. The medical team put it down to the infection relating to my pancreatitis and thought it would reduced as the infection cleared. It’s now roughly 13 weeks since I came out of the coma. My bloods markers have come right down and show pretty much no infection ( this is 2 weeks ago prior to me getting bi-lateral pneumonia ) yet my heart rate is still the same ? Resting at 130bpm and shooting up to between 145 to 170 as soon as I do anything relatively non-energetic ??
The pancreas consultant referred me to cardiology and they’ve come back to him , after reviewing my records online, and said it’s not heart related. The consultant held his hands up and actually said to me he has no idea why my heart rate is so elevated OR why I’m so dizzy from the minute I wake up to the minute I go to bed ?
Has anybody else had issues with elevated heart rate since their induced coma ? Thanks Rob

That’s unsatisfactory isn’t it - I did have extremely high pulse whilst in ICU - it felt like a bird in my chest it was beating so fast. It did calm down - probably through meds. Since then I have very low blood pressure & slow heart beat - this leaves me dizzy - which is also a sign of neuropathy.
I've had heart rate issues since ICU ...not in induced coma but unconscious and had CPR . I sent for my medical records as cardiologist says just due to the 'profound illness ' I had (severe hyponatraemia and aspiration pneumonia.)They show masses of high heart and BP problems they struggled to settle with all the drugs they tried. On discharge I was 'tachycardic unknown reason possibly due to stress'.....9 months on I can only walk on the flat and if get tired ..which happens easily ..my heart gets very unsettled. I'm sort of feeling I'm stuck with it ...
I have had heart rate issues since my induced coma, but that was down to the blood clotting and a massive pulmonary embolism that severe covid caused.
Maybe you have some small clotting around the heart and/or lungs that is affecting oxygen levels and heart rate?
I also had post-covid fluid around the heart. It may be worth asking for some scans of your heart to look for/eliminate all these possibilities?
Or there is the dreaded heart stress test, when you are put on a treadmill and scanned at the same time so see how long it takes your heart to return to "normal" after exercise. I have had this too.
I now have a damaged right heart chamber (which sustained most of the covid clotting and sticky blood damage) which causes the left sided chamber to over-pump and go crazy, with a really high heart rate.
It has also left me with pulmonary hypertension ie high blood pressure.
I am now on two hypertension tablets and a beta-blocker which keeps my heart rate at about 60bpm.
I still have a higher heart rate after induced coma due to covid. Not sure if it was the covid or the cons but it is very very gradually starting to slow. Then again I’m 64 and that may also be a factor
I did have dizziness but it was due to me taking bisoprol & perendipol at the same time - as instructed. Once I started taking the perindopol at night it stopped.
Yes I did have that, so high I had a Heart Attack but thank god I was in the right place it’s left me with AF and on meds for now, mine took a while before it settled. Fingers crossed for you.
