Hi! I was in an induced coma from January this year until end of march. I unfortunately tried to commit suicide. I woke up 8 weeks later... With an adult sized hand hole in my leg, sepsis, on diyalsis, tracheostomy, had about 13 different infections! We are now in August and last week I climbed my first set of stairs!!! My leg is still severely damaged and my wound is about a week away till it looks like it will finally be closed! I'm still very very far off being recovered and I never thought I'd never get to this point

(I was also in a coma 2 years ago for 6 weeks but was walking within a week of being stepped down from ICU, so I was guessing this recovery would be as "easy")

And you are slightly older - it takes its toll on us being in ICU - you may not have fully recovered from your first experience. I’m sorry that you got to the point where you felt that this was your only solution & I hope you are getting the support you need to recover fully. We run drop-in meetings & offer support for any who come to us no matter what you’ve been through to get to ICU 💙

Good to know you are still very much in the land of the living - even with the difficulties to be overcome having been in ICU it's so much better than the alternative.

I was a couple of years older than yourself when I spent 4 weeks in a coma in intensive care with Legionnaire's Disease, ARDS, double pneumonia and status asthmaticus - it took me several months before I could even walk again and I needed a wheelchair for six months.

Just wanted to send some good vibes through the forum here and wish you all the best for the future :)

I just want to start out by saying, I’m so sorry to hear this and I’m so glad you’re still here. I know you’ve been in absolute hell emotionally and now physically also, but think where you’re going to be in another seven months! This shows the pure strength, resilience and determination you truly have! I hope you’re receiving the best care and in touch with the right services to help guide you along the way in your journey.

When I was 27, I tried to take my life in February 2022. I was placed in an induced coma and also had a tracheotomy after many failed attempts to extubate. After a 15 month psychiatric hospital admission, 7 month admission that ended two days before my suicide attempt and 7 weeks in general hospital, I’ve finally moved onto the next step, supported living.

I wish you nothing but the best and I hope you continue to go from strength to strength.

Please remember how incredible you are, it’s not your time to go yet.

Sending love and hugs x

My problems with the tracheostomy were first that it would not heal. I keep getting swelling behind it the size of golf balls that would rise to the surface and burst through. When this settled down the wound took months to heal properly.I am still left a couple of years on with a problem with scarring from it inside. But it is not that bad and Ihave got used to it and can live with it. Once it settled there were really. O further problems but it took a long time. Of all the the fun things that happened to me honestly this one is one of the ones that has faded but at the time it was a real pain.
