COVID-19 treatment with Ultomiris

COVID-19 treatment with Ultomiris. My father who recently passed away after battling COVID-19 in the ICU for 30 days died of Covid-19 /Septic Shock. He also acquired a number of bacterial and fungal infections while being treated in the ICU. I am wondering if anyone heard of or was a candidate for treatment with Ultomiris? My dad received 2 infusions of this drug during the first 2.5 weeks in the icu. I wonder if this drug had any impact on the complications he experienced after being admitted for ARDS COVID-19 ?

Hi Sonya. I am not sure about that treatment. I know my mum was treated with remdesiver although she’s been testing negative for covid for last few weeks she’s still on the ventilator recovering from the damage that was already caused. It’s still early days and I don’t think they have managed to find a 100% effective drug for covid yet

Dear Anuur44 , my dad was treated with remdisivir, steroids, antibiotics, sedatives and pain killers . Due to the extent of his ARDS, he was a candidate to receive something known as “ultomiris” , which is currently still in the testing phase forCovid -19. I was wondering in anyone in the UK/US was offered this elective treatment? As a family we didn’t know much about anything when my dad got into the ICU, we were desperate to help him. The doctors offered us this treatment in addition to the standard protocol to treat covid. We were so hopeless at that point, that anything the doctors were telling us we just took their word for it.. Wishing your mum a speedy and full recovery🙏

My thoughts go out to you for the loss of your father. Having myself been through the Covid-19 ICU process, my understanding it that it is a last resort, and is itself extremely dangerous. The body is subjected to a roller-coaster of experiences, any of which is potentially fatal, but all of which are closely monitored. A few searches for Ultomiris show that it has proved ineffective, so though current trials are being completed, meaning that there haven't been any contraindications, it has been withdrawn in respect of Covid-19. While I was in a coma, my wife agreed to my participation in trials of hydroxychloroquine (much vaunted by Trump at the time), a drug which proved to have some small negative implications. Whatever drugs are used in ICU, the fantastic skills of the staff and their miraculous machinery keep us safe. Every finest detail of every patient can be anonymously shared with experts the world over, which is more than ever critical in anything to do with this horrendous pandemic.

Dear Rach2Sym ,I just read that ultomiris trial study for Covid-19 was withdrawn on January 14, 2021. As so, I believe my dad was the last enrollee into this study as such he didn’t make it. He was enrolled around the 18th of December, 2020 and passed on January 15, 2021.
